DALLAS – Midwestern State is tied for ninth in the 14-team field through the first two rounds of the 54-hole DBU Classic, which is being played on the Blue Course at Dallas Athletic Club.

The Mustangs shot 27-over 315 in the first round on Monday but improved their score by five strokes in the second round to finish the first 36 holes at 49-over 625.

Mary Kerr had the best day among the Mustangs, shooting 5-over 149 through the first two rounds. The junior from Friendswood, Texas, is in a three-way tie for 16th place in the 74-player field. Kerr carded three birdies in her first round and finished at 3-over 75. In the second round, Kerr had four birdies and finished 2-over 74.

Romane Lacoste had three birdies in her opening round, including back-to-back birdies on the 142-yard par-3 No. 7 hole and the 305-yard par-4 No. 8 hole. Lacoste opened with a 5-over 77. She birdied the 147-yard par 3 No. 16 hole in the second round and shot 7-over 79 in the afternoon session. The senior from France is in a six-way tie for 35th place at 12-over 156.

Emme Darnold had two birdies in her second round and shot 5-over 77. Darnold is 15-over 159 after 36 holes and is in a three-way tie for 49th place.

Kaetie Samuels birdied the 149-yard par-3 No. 14 hole twice on Monday and finished the day with four birdies through two rounds and is in a three-way tie for 54th place at 17-over 161.

Samantha Truong, competing as an individual is 24-over 168 and in a four-way tie for 68th place. Kinley Pessel birdied the 349-yard par-4 No. 9 hole in each round and is 25-over 169 in 72nd place.

Barry is atop the team leaderboard at 8-over and takes a one stroke lead over Anderson into the final round on Tuesday. St. Mary's and DBU are tied for third at 12-over, 20 strokes ahead of fifth-place Cal State-San Marcos.

Six players are in red numbers, led by Taylor Wilczek of St. Mary's, who shot 6-under 66 in the second round and is tied with Tereza Zavrelova of Barry at 4-under 140 on the player leaderboard. Zavrelova shot 5-under 67 in the first round. 

Gracie Grant of DBU is tied for third with Olivia Roberts of Anderson (S.C.) at 2-under 142. Addison Davis of Central Missouri and Presli Webb of Anderson (S.C.) are tied for fifth at 1-under 143.

Carmella Carlisi of Cal State-San Marcos, Chloe Sirkin of DBU and Manon Verret of St. Mary's are tied for seventh place at even par after two rounds.

The final round at the Jack Nicklaus Signature Course gets underway Tuesday morning.
