THACKERVILLE, Okla. – Midwestern State closed out the WinStar Invitational on Tuesday afternoon shooting 10-over 292 in the final round to finish tied for third place at 26-over 890 through 54 holes on the WinStar Golf Club Scissortail Course.
The Mustangs finished tied with West Texas A&M, 34 strokes behind Dallas Baptist, which finished 18 strokes better than second place St. Mary's at 8-under 856.
Mia Hammerschmid of West Texas A&M edged Madison Ube of DBU and Taylor Wilczek of St. Mary's by one stroke as the individual titlist at 4-under 212.
Mary Kerr finished tied for sixth place with Elle Pistana of DBU at 1-over 217. The junior from Friendswood, Texas, shot 2-under 70 in the final round. Kerr closed out the front nine with an eagle on the 509-yard par-5. She added two birdies on the back nine and finished the tournament eight birdies.
Roman Locoste shot 4-over 76 in the final round to finish the tournament in 16th place at 8-over 224. The senior from France had four birdies and one eagle during the tournament.
Kaetie Samuels, a sophomore from Flower Mound, Texas, shot even-par 72 in the final round and finished tied with Sidney Robertson of DBU for 10th place at 4-over 220. Samuels had three birdies in the third round and carded her third bogey of the round on the 384-yard par-4 18th hole. Samuels had eight birdies through 54 holes for the Mustangs.
Kinley Pessel finished with her best round of the tournament on Tuesday, shooting 3-over 75 to finish in 38th place at 19-over 325. The senior from Marshall, Texas, had two birdies during the tournament, including one on the 308-yard par-4 10th hole in the final round.
Emme Darnold, a sophomore from Andrews, Texas, shot 8-over 80 for the second consecutive day and finished in a three-way tie for 41st place at 21-over 327.
Madison Wert had three birdies on the front nine in the final round and came in at 1-under 35. The senior from Roanoke, Texas, finished the round at 3-over 75. Wert tied for 44th place at 22-over 328.
Samantha Truong, a sophomore from Pearland, Texas, was competing as an individual in the season-opening 54-hole event and finished tied for 24th place at 10-over 226. Truong had three birdies and was 2-under through 14 holes of the final round but finished at even-par 72.
Midwestern State will tee it up again at the Dallas Athletic Club for the DBU Classic on Sept. 28 and 29.
