THACKERVILLE, Okla. – Midwestern State shot 7-over 295 in the opening round and is tied with St. Mary's for fourth place at the WinStar Invitational. The Mustangs are six strokes behind Southeastern Oklahoma State, which is one stroke better than Dallas Baptist atop the leaderboard through 18 holes of the 54-hole tournament.
 
Romane Lacoste is one of four individuals in red numbers. The senior from Borderes, France, is 1-under 71 in fourth place on the player leaderboard. Lacoste is three strokes behind the leader, Emma Thompson of Southeastern Oklahoma State. Madison Ude of DBU and Carley Button of Southeastern Oklahoma State are tied for second place at 3-under 69.
 
Lacoste birdied the par-4 371-yard second hole and the par-5 503-yard 15^th hole on the Scissortail Course at WinStar Golf Club. The highlight of her round came on the par-4 308-yard 10^th, where she carded an eagle.
 
Sophomore Kaetie Samuels is in a three-way tie for 11^th place at 1-over 73. Samuels birdied back-to-back holes on the back nine after reeling off eight straight pars. Samuels was 3-over through six holes but did not bogey any of the final 12 holes.
 
Mary Kerr is tied with five other players for 14^th place at 2-over 74. Kerr finished the front nine at 3-over but came in at 1-under. The junior from Friendswood, Texas, birdied the par-3 189-yard 11^th hole and closed her round with a birdie at the 384-yard par-4 18^th hole.
 
Emme Darnold birdied two of the first three holes but had four consecutive bogies on the back nine and finished 5-over 77 and is tied with three other players for 29^th place.
 
Kinley Pessel is tied for 40^th place at 8-over 80, and Madison Wert is in 54^th place after shooting 13-over in the first round.
 
Samantha Truong is playing as an individual and is in a four-way tie for 25^th place with a 4-over 76. The sophomore from Pearland, Texas, birdied the par-4 342-yard fourth hole, and she birdied No. 17, which is a 160-yard par-3.
 
The second round tees off on Monday morning with the final 18 holes to be played on Tuesday.
