WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State is hosting the annual Mustang Derby on Thursday morning. The women's 4,000-meter race gets underway at 8 a.m. There will also be a men's 6,000-meter race, starting at 8:30 a.m., and girls and boys from area high schools will run at 9:10 a.m. This year the course is set up at Lake Wichita Park.

Midwestern State is seeking its fifth consecutive Mustang Derby victory.

The Mustangs began the 2026 season at the Aggie Duals just a few week ago, as 15 Mustangs, including 10 freshman, competed on the course in the 5K race. Elizabeth Gregory led the Mustangs in the opening race of the season, completing the course in 19:07.0 to take 8^th place. Several Mustangs followed shortly after with Natalie Trevino (14^th, 19:43.6), Jazira Perez (15^th, 19:48.6), Makayla Jetton (18^th, 19:53.4), and Jacie Kainer (19^th, 19:58.0) following shortly after.
 
Several Mustangs made their collegiate debut in the Aggie Duals: Gregory, Trevino, Yarida DeLeon, Jetton, Kainer, Lola Hart, Shae Coates, Alyson Mata, Addison Clark, and Yasmeen Tejeda, while Perez led a small group of returners in the race (Maggie Neal, Sydney Carian, Sophia Lee, and Zulma Garcia).

The Mustangs next meet is the SU Showdown at the Southwestern XC Course in Georgetown, Texas, on Oct. 3.
