Midwestern State in 12-team field at The Dewsweeper in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO – Midwestern State tees it up for the first time this fall at the Dewsweeper Invitational at TPC San Antonio – AT&T Canyons Course. The Mustangs will be joined by 11 other schools in the field, including six teams from the Lone Star Conference. The 54-hole tournament begins on Monday and concludes on Tuesday.

Anniston McIlwain, Ryan Griff, Jaxon Donaldson, Collin Moody and Carter Ray are in the No. 37-ranked Mustangs' lineup for the season-opening tournament.

McIlwain, who transferred to Midwestern State from Delta State, appeared in 11 tournaments for the Mustangs as a sophomore and finished the year with a scoring average of 73.7 through 33 rounds. He was second on the team with 349 pars and three eagles. The Bulverde, Texas, native had 88 birdies last year and nine rounds of par or lower.

Griff, a junior from Bulverde, Texas, finished second at the Rattler Invitational in San Antonio last year, shooting 3-under 313 at Dominion Country Club. Griff had nine rounds of par or lower and one sub-70 round last year, shooting 4-under 68 at the NCAA II National Preview at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada.

Donaldson is in his first season with Midwestern State after transferring from Texas State. The two-time Class 4A Texas State High School Individual Champion from Wimberly, Texas, made the lineup in all 11 tournaments for the Bobcats as a freshman in 2024-25 and had five top-25 finishes.

Moody, a sophomore from Bridgeport, Texas, appeared in the Midwestern State Invitational last year and had a scoring average of 77.4 with 28 pars and eight birdies.

Ray, a junior from Walters, Oklahoma, came to MSU from Oklahoma City and was the runner-up at the Northwestern Iowa Invitational as a freshman for the Stars. He was the 2024 Class 2A Individual State Champion as a senior at Walters High School.

Pete Dye, working with Bruce Lietzke, designed the par-72, 7,106-yard Canyons course, which previously hosted the PGA Tour Champions San Antonio Championship. The course features wide fairways, hilly terrain and panoramic views of the Cibolo Canyons. The course underwent a full-scale bunker restoration project in 2022 to match Dye's original design.

St. Mary's, UT Permian Basin, Cameron, Oklahoma Christian, Dallas Baptist and UT Tyler are the other LSC teams competing in the tournament. Georgia Southwestern State, Southern Arkansas, Arkansas Tech, Cal State-San Bernadino and Southern Wesleyan complete the field.

Midwestern State will next play in the Hrnciar Invitational at The Territory Golf Club in Duncan, Oklahoma, on Oct. 5 and Oct. 6.
