SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Midwestern State shot 6-over 294 in the final round of The Dewsweeper Invitational at TPC-San Antonio Canyons Course and finished tied with Cameron for third place in the 12-team field at 2-over 866, six strokes behind the winners from Cal State-San Bernadino, which finished at 4-under 860. Arkansas Tech finished in second place at 1-under 863.
Midwestern State held the 36-hole lead by one stroke over the Wonder Boys of Arkansas Tech at 4-under 572. Cal State-Bernadino was even-par entering play on Tuesday and shot 4-under 284 in the final round to claim the title.
Anniston McIlwain finished in a tie for third place on the individual leaderboard with Christian Yanovitch of Oklahoma Christian at 5-under 211. Luke Cote of Southern Arkansas won the individual medalist at 11-under 205, which was five strokes better than Jagger Cole of Dallas Baptist.
McIlwain had five birdies and his second eagle of the tournament, finishing the final round at 1-under 71. McIwain tied Cote for the third most birdies through three rounds with 13. Christian Clanton of DBU finished the tournament with 16 birdies and Landon Frank of Cameron had 14.
McIlwain shot 6-under on the four par-5s during the tournament, including an eagle at 575-yard 15
th hole in the second round on Monday. In the final round on Tuesday, McIlwain eagled the 400-yard par 4 10
th hole. Only Cote had more eagles during the tournament with three.
Jaxon Donaldson shot 1-over 73 in the final round and finished in a six-way tie for 16
th place alongside his teammate,
Collin Moody, who carded a 2-over 74 in the third round. Donaldson and Moody each had three birdies in the final round and finished the tournament at 2-over 218.
Carter Ray closed his final round with three consecutive pars and shot 4-over 76. The junior from Walters, Oklahoma, finished the tournament in a four-way tie for the 30
th place at six-over 222.
Ryan Griff, who had a bogey-free 2-under 70 in the second round on Monday, bogeyed his first hole of the final round and shot a 10-over 82 on Tuesday. Griff finished tied for 51
st place at 11-over 227.
The Mustangs were the strongest team in the field on the par-4s at the Pete Dye-designed course, shooting 7-over par, which was seven strokes better than Oklahoma Christian. The Mustangs tied with Cal State-San Bernadino for the fourth-most birdies with 46 — five fewer than Arkansas Tech, which led the field with 51 birdies.
Midwestern State will next play in the Hrnciar Invitational at The Territory Golf Club in Duncan, Oklahoma, on Oct. 5 and Oct. 6.
