PUEBLO, Colo. – Due to an unfavorable weather forecast, the NCAA Division II West Region attempted to play 36 holes on Monday with hopes of completing the 54-hole event on Tuesday. Midwestern State had three players complete two rounds on Monday, while
Kodi Nolen and
Mary Kerr each need to play one hole on Tuesday to complete their second round as play was suspended due to darkness at Pueblo Country Club on Monday night.
When play was halted, Midwestern State was in ninth place at 63-over 624. Dallas Baptist sits atop the leaderboard at 34-over 599, leading Cal State San Marcos by two strokes. St. Mary's is in third place tied with Colorado State - Pueblo at 45-over 611. UT Tyler sits in fifth place at 51-over 616.
The Mustangs are five strokes behind West Texas A&M for eighth place entering play on Tuesday.
Romane Lacoste had the best day among the Mustangs. The junior transfer from France is tied for 21st place at 14-over. She shot 3-over 74 in the first round with two birdies on the back nine at the 5,923-yard course. Lacoste had three birdies in the two rounds combined.
Mary Kerr is tied for 42nd place at 17-over as she shot 11-over 82 in the first round with two double bogeys and one triple bogey. The sophomore from Friendswood had three birdies in her opening round. She strung together eight consecutive pars in her second round but does not have a birdie through 17 holes of the round.
Nolen and
Alli Reily are tied for 48th in the 96-player field at 18-over.
Reily had three birdies through her first 36 holes — all in the second round. Reily shot 13-over 84 in the opening round, but she was much better in the afternoon session, shooting 5-over 76.
Nolen opened with an 8-over 79, carding two birdies over the first 18 holes. She opened her second round with back-to-back birdies but shot 9-over over her next 10 holes before putting together back-to-back pars. Nolen plays the par-3, 135-yard No. 6 hole to close out her second round on Tuesday morning.
Madison Wert is 23-over through two rounds finishing her day with a double bogey on the No. 6 hole. The junior from Roanoke, Texas, is tied for 75th place after shooting 14-over in the afternoon session, and she is still seeking her first birdie of the tournament.
Midwestern State starts the day on Tuesday with a two-stroke lead over Simon Fraser in 10th place at 65-over. Play resumes at 8 a.m. MDT on Tuesday.
