RICHARDSON, Texas – No. 19-ranked Midwestern State plays its first of four consecutive dual matches on the road this week at UT Dallas, and the Mustangs will visit UT Tyler the following day. First serve at UTD Tennis Complex on Friday is scheduled for 1 p.m. MSU will be at Summers Tennis Center to face UT Tyler on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Midwestern State (9-4, 1-1) is 1-2 in road duals this season but is coming off a 7-0 win over UT Permian Basin at the end of a three-dual weekend. Lubbock Christian won the conference opener at MSU Tennis Center last week, 5-2, and the Mustangs visited Baylor for an exhibition on Saturday before facing the Falcons on Sunday.
Midwestern State is 41-28 in singles matches this season with its highest winning percentage at No. 4 singles, where the Mustangs are 10-3 (.769).
Juan David Duque is 5-1 and
Jose Marquez is 5-2.
Marquez routed Kabir Chothani of UTPB in 48 minutes on Sunday, winning the point at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-0. The senior from Oaxaca, Mexico, improved to 2-0 in conference play after defeating No. 22-ranked Andres De Los Rios of Lubbock Christian 7-5, 6-2. Marquez won six of his last seven singles matches.
Duque played No. 3 singles in each of the first two conference duals, and he defeated Nehal Naidoo of UTPB in a match tiebreak, 4-6, 6-2, (15-13). Duque won for the fifth time in six singles matches and improved his record this season to 8-5.
Germano Setti, ranked No. 18 in singles, has been a mainstay at No. 1 singles for the Mustangs, posting an 8-3 record after defeating Joao D'Amorim of UTPB 6-7 (2-7), 6-2, (10-4) on Sunday.
Bruno Sanchez has won three of his last four matches at No. 2 singles, including a 6-2, 7-5 win over Lukas Nakasato of UTPB. The junior from Spain is 8-4 this season with two wins over nationally ranked opponents.
Matthew Earle is 4-4 at No. 5 singles after knocking off Andrew Hussey of UTPB, 6-3, 6-1.
Earle and Setti are 11-1 at No. 2 doubles with a 10-match winning streak, and the Mustangs have won the doubles point in three of their last four matches.
Midwestern State is 22-16 in doubles matches this season and 3-3 against conference opponents.
UT DALLAS (1-11, 1-3)
UT Dallas is in its first season as a member of the LSC and picked up its first conference victory by defeating Sul Ross State, 7-0, at home on March 29. The Comets are 1-10 in home duals this season. Last week, UTD traveled to Silver City, New Mexico, and lost to Western New Mexico, 6-1.
The Mustangs will be the third ranked team that the Comets have faced this season. No. 38-ranked Ouachita Baptist defeated the Comets last month, 6-0, and No. 14-ranked Lubbock Christian defeated UTD in its conference opener, 7-0.
The Comets are 14-50 in singles matches this season with a 3-8 record at No. 1 singles. UTD's highest winning percentage is at No. 2 singles with a 4-5 record in nine completed matches.
UT TYLER (15-4, 3-1)
Midwestern State lost seven of its last 10 duals with the Patriots, and the all-time series is tied, 8-8. MSU is 3-5 when visiting UT Tyler and lost its last four visits, including a 4-3 loss at Summers Tennis Center in the NCAA Division II Round of 32 last year.
The Patriots won three of the last four meetings, but MSU defeated UT Tyler 4-3 in the Lone Star Conference Championship semifinals at Arlington Tennis Center last spring.
UT Tyler, which is 7-2 at home this season, hosts No. 31-ranked Cameron on Friday before welcoming the Mustangs on Saturday afternoon.
The Patriots won seven of their last eight dual matches, including four straight 7-0 wins. Their only loss in that span is a 5-2 setback to No. 8-ranked Lubbock Christian.
UT Tyler is 79-22 in singles matches, led by Samuel Antwi, who is 17-0 and ranked No. 8 in the nation. Antwi has played primarily in the No. 4 spot for the Patriots.
The Patriots are 32-22 in doubles matches this season and have won the doubles point in 10 of 19 duals. In doubles matches, UT Tyler is 10-2 in its last four duals, winning the doubles point in each of those matchups.
