Big W in Big D for MSU men's tennis

RICHARDSON, Texas – No.19-ranked Midwestern State swept its second consecutive opponent on Friday afternoon as the Mustangs defeated UT Dallas, 7-0, on the heels of a 7-0 win against UT Permian Basin on Sunday.

The Mustangs improved to 10-4 this season with a 2-1 conference record. UT Dallas falls to 1-12 this season and is 1-3 in its inaugural Lone Star Conference campaign.
Midwestern State won the doubles point for the fourth time in their last five dual matches.

Juan David Duque and Bruno Sanchez posted a 6-3 victory at No. 1 doubles, defeating Benjamin Dubois and Matheus de Freitas Zanellato, 6-3. The MSU pairing improve to 5-5 this spring. 

Jack Franklin and Jose Marquez were also 6-3 winners over Ben Barnet and Ronav Aviur at No. 3 doubles. Franklin and Marquez were playing their first match as a doubles' pairing for the Mustangs.

Matthew Earle and Germano Setti were pushed to a tiebreak by Juan Luis Aguirre and Eddy Shteyn, but the Mustang duo won its 11th consecutive match and improved to 12-1 this season with a 7-6 (7) victory at No. 2 doubles.

Marquez breezed to a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Shteyn for his third straight triumph in singles, improving to 5-2 at No. 3 singles this season and 10-4 overall in singles matches.

No. 18-ranked Germano Setti handled Aguirre with aplomb, 6-2, 6-1, and improved his record at No. 1 singles to 9-3.

Tomas Leguizamon made his first start at No. 4 singles for MSU and improved his record overall in singles matches to 4-4 with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Zanellato, clinching the dual-match victory for the Mustangs.

Sanchez rallied for his third straight win at No. 2 singles, defeating Dubois in a match tiebreak 4-6, 7-6 (5), (10-6). Sanchez is 9-4 in singles this spring.

Cesar Loeches Llamas earned his second win of the season for the Mustangs, improving to 2-2 at No. 6 singles, with a 6-1, 6-1 pasting of Eduardo Pastor.

Rowan Olsen made his first appearance in a regulation dual and posted a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Aviur at No. 5 singles.

Midwestern State heads east to meet No. 7-ranked UT Tyler at Summers Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
