SPRING, Texas – No. 29-ranked Midwestern State opens its spring schedule at Cypresswood Country Club Tradition Course and the Southern Invite, which features a field of 15 schools, including four other teams from the Lone Star Conference. The 54-hole tournament tees off on Monday morning and concludes with the final 18 holes on Tuesday.
Mary Kerr, Romane Lacoste, Alli Reily, Kodi Nolen, and Emme Darnold comprise the MSU lineup for this week's event. Madison Wert is playing as an individual.
The Mustangs finished seventh in the 16-team Midwestern State Invitational in October. Reily led the Mustangs at 11-over 227 through 54 holes and finished in a three-way tie for 19th place.
Nolen and Wert both shot 4-over 76 in the final round. Nolen finished 30th at 15-over 231, and Wert finished in a four-way tie for 48th place at 20-over 236.
Kerr, competing as an individual, finished in a four-way tie for 25th place at 13-over 229, and Kaetie Samuels, competing as an individual, finished in a seven-way tie for 31st place after shooting 4-over in her final round to finish at 16-over 232 for the tournament.
Lacoste carded a 10-over 82 in the final round and finished in a four-way tie for 38th place at 17-over 233.
Last year, Midwestern State finished eighth in the Southern Invite, which was shortened to 36 holes due to inclement weather.
Reily bounced back from an opening round 80 to score a 2-over 73 in the second round to move into a tie for 37th with an 11-over 153.
Nolen finished 56th at 14-over 156, while Wert tied for 74th at 23-over 165.
The field this year includes defending champion and No. 2-ranked Dallas Baptist, which is led by No. 4-ranked Ella Cheek, No. 11-ranked Gracie Grant, and No. 16-ranked Madison Ude.
No. 6-ranked UT Tyler, No. 18-ranked St. Mary's,and No. 26-ranked West Texas A&M are also in the field, which includes Pittsburg State, Henderson State, Southern Arkansas, Missouri-St. Louis, Central Missouri, Oklahoma Baptist, Rogers State, Southwestern Oklahoma State, Arkansas-Fort Smith and the hosts Central Oklahoma.
Keith Foster designed the Tradition Course at Cypresswood in the wooded landscape of north Houston, and it has been rated as the No. 1 daily-fee course in the Houston area by the Houston Chronicle for four consecutive years.
The Houston area is expecting partly cloudy skies on Monday with a high temperature of 72 degrees and 10-20 mph wind from the southeast. The Tuesday forecast is similar but slightly warmer.
