DBU wins Midwestern State Invitational, MSU finishes seventh

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State shot 19-over par in the final round at Wichita Falls Country Club on Tuesday and finished seventh at the Midwestern State Invitational.

Dallas Baptist defeated defending champion Odessa College by six strokes and won the title at 8-over par 872.

Odessa closed the tournament with a 1-under par 287, while Dallas Baptist shot 1-under in the opening round and held on for the victory. 

St. Mary's shot 6-under 282 in the second round but finished in third place at 18-over 882 after shooting 9-over 297 in the final round on Tuesday.

Dallas Baptist shot 15-under on the par-5s and led the tournament with four eagles. The Patriots also carded the third-most birdies with 40. Odessa and St. Mary's each had 43 birdies to lead the tournament. DBU had 165 pars, which was five more than Odessa.

Alli Reily led the Mustangs at 11-over 227 through 54 holes and finished in a three-way tie for 19th place.

Kodi Nolen and Madison Wert both shot 4-over 76 in the final round. Nolen finished 30th at 15-over 231, and Wert finished in a four-way tie for 48th place at 20-over 236.

Mary Kerr, competing as an individual, finished in a four-way tie for 25th place at 13-over 229, and Kaetie Samuels, competing as an individual, finished in a seven-way tie for 31st place after shooting 4-over in her final round to finish at 16-over 232 for the tournament.

Romane Lacoste carded a 10-over 82 on Tuesday and finished in a four-way tie for 38th place at 17-over 233.

Ella Cheek of Dallas Baptist finished atop the leaderboard at 8-under 208, closing the tournament with a 2-under 70.

Aaliyah Hryniewiecka-Irwin of McLennan Community College finished two strokes back in second place, while Napajira Nami Luesattha of Odessa College and Martha Laremark of UT Tyler finished tied for third at 4-under 212.

Cheek finished 7-under on the par 5s, and she had three eagles during the tournament, including two in her opening round. She had four of her 11 birdies in the final round. Hryniewiecka-Irwin led the field with 15 birdies through 54 holes.

Midwestern State will not tee it up in competition again until the spring semester.
