WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State battled windy conditions at Wichita Falls Country Club on Monday and is tied for sixth place with Lubbock Christian and Angelo State through two rounds of the Midwestern State Invitational.
The Mustangs shot 31-over 319 in the first round and followed that up with a 6-over 294 in the second round. MSU is 37-over 613 through 36 holes and trails first place Dallas Baptist by 33 strokes heading into the final round.
St. Mary's is four strokes behind the Patriots, who opened with a 1-under 287 but shot 5-over 293 in the second and hold the lead at 4-over.
Defending champion Odessa College is in third place at 15-over followed by UT Tyler at 20-over and New Mexico Junior College at 28-over.
Romane Lacoste, Alli Reily and Mary Kerr are tied for 19th and posted the best scores for the Mustangs at 7-over.
Lacoste had the best round of the day among MSU golfers with a 1-under 71 in the second round. Locoste carded four birdies over her final 18 holes of the day.
Midwestern State tied for sixth with 24 birdies as a team.
Reily was one of 10 players to record an eagle on Monday. The senior from Pottsboro, Texas, eagled the par-5, 431-yard, sixth hole during her second round and shot 1-over 73 during the afternoon session.
Kerr, competing as an individual, had the best first round among the Mustangs with a 3-over 75. which included two birdies on the front nine at Wichita Falls Country Club.
Kodi Nolen shot 3-over in the second round and finished 11-over in 40th place through 36 holes. Emme Darnold also shot 3-over in the second round and is tied for 43rd at 12-over.
Kaetie Samuels, competing as an individual, is also in a group of seven players tied for 43rd at 12-over after she shot 3-over in the second round.
Madison Wert finished the first day of competition at 16-over after shooting 6-over in the second round, and she is in 60th place.
Ella Cheek of Dallas Baptist and Taylor Wilczek of St. Mary's are tied for the lead at 6-under. Cheek shot 3-under in each of the first two rounds, while Wilczek followed an even-par first round with a 6-under second round.
Aaliya Hryniewiecka-Irwin of McLennan Community College is one stroke back in third place and Martha Laremark of UT Tyler is fourth at 4-under.
Gracie Grant of Dallas Baptist and Amy Squires of Texas Tech are the only other player in red numbers at 2-under, while Napajira Nami Luesattha of Odessa shot even-par on Monday.
The final round of the 54-hole event tees off at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
