CORINTH, Texas — No. 22 Midwestern State's women's golf team tied for third at the DBU Classic, highlighted by
Mary Kerr's fifth-place individual finish with a two-round total of 142, including a final round 69 Tuesday afternoon at Oakmont Country Club.
"Today the girls finished extremely well strong! We started a little rocky, but played our last nine as a team 4-under par," said graduate assistant
Makenna Henry.
Midwestern State tied for third place at the DBU Classic with a final team score of 583. The team showed consistency, improving from a first-round score of 294 to a 289 in the final round. Kerr led the team with a notable performance, tying for fifth individually with a total score of 142/2-under par, improving significantly with a second-round score of 69, 3-under par. Her strong showing contributed to the Mustangs' competitive placement among 15 teams. No.1 DBU won their home tournament, shooting 8-under par/566 team score over the two rounds. No.17 UT Tyler finished in second place, shooting an even 576 during the tournament.
Romane Lacoste and
Alli Reily both tied for 22nd place with a final score of 146, each demonstrating steady play across both rounds. Lacoste shot a final round of even-par 72, while Reily maintained consistency with back-to-back rounds scoring one-over-par 73.
Madison Wert and
Kaetie Samuels finished 36th and 47th respectively, with Wert posting a 149 and Samuels a 151 over the two rounds.
Samantha Truong, competing as an individual, finished with a score of 156.
"Mary played extremely well, hitting the ball and putting great today. Romane also had a solid round, as she was rarely out of position and hit her approach shots really well!," said Henry.
Kerr's final round featured an eagle on hole No. 15, the third of their career, while finishing even or better on par-4's and par-5s over the two days. The Mustangs led the tournament with 129 pars, while 18 birdies were the 8th best among competitors. Lacoste and Reily both tied for 22nd, each finishing with a score of 146 (+2). Lacoste maintained consistency with rounds of 74 (+2) and 72 (E), while Reily recorded identical scores of 73 (+1) in both rounds. Wert contributed with a score of 149 (+5), tying for 36th, following rounds of 74 (+2) and 75 (+3).
Overall, I am super proud of everyone, we had a great tournament showing to start off the fall!," said Henry.
The Mustangs head to Amarillo, Texas for their next tournament competing in the WT Invitational (Sept. 29-30) at Lascosa Golf Club on the La Paloma Course.
