ARLINGTON, Texas -- –
Anda Ghinga was named Lone Star Conference Senior of the Year and joined
Jessica Binzari on First Team Singles. The awards were presented on Wednesday night at the LSC Tennis Championship Awards Reception.
Sofia Giraldo and
Camila Garcia were named Second Team Singles, while the tandem of Garcia and
Hannah Yip was selected Second Team Doubles.
Yip received Honorable Mention Singles, and the pairing of
Sydney Williams and
Sarah Mazaraki earned Honorable Mention Doubles.
Ghinga, who owns the school record for career wins in singles with 68 victories, was 18-2 during the regular season and carries a 12-match winning streak into the 2025 LSC Women's Tennis Championship. The Romanian is 10-0 against LSC opponents and 10-0 in the No. 3 position for the Mustangs. She also won eight of her 10 matches at No. 4 singles during the rigorous non-conference campaign.
Ghinga was also the Mustangs' representative on the Sportsmanship Team.
Binzari, who is ranked No. 6 in the ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings among NCAA Division II players, finished the season with a 15-4 record in singles, winning 13 of her 16 matches in the No. 1 position. The senior from Romania was 4-1 against nationally ranked opponents during the regular season.
Binzari and Ghinga are ranked No. 20 in the nation as a doubles' pairing, and the duo finished the season with a 14-6 record in dual matches, including two wins against nationally ranked foes.
Sophomore
Sofia Giraldo reeled off nine consecutive victories without dropping a set from March 9 – April 17. The Colombian, ranked No. 32 in the nation among NCAA Division II players, won back-to-back three-set matches at the end of the regular season and has an 11-match winning streak entering the postseason. Giraldo was 10-0 against LSC opponents at the No. 4 position and finished the regular season with a 16-5 overall record in dual matches.
Veteran left-hander
Hannah Yip was 7-3 against conference opponents and finished the regular season with an overall singles record of 14-7. The senior from Ipoh, Malaysia, was 12-5 when playing No. 2 singles for the Stang Gang.
Yip and Garcia won eight of 10 doubles' matches during the conference campaign, and the duo was 10-3 at the No. 2 doubles spot for the Mustangs.
Garcia, a freshman from Colombia, finished the season with a 10-5 record at No. 5 singles for the Mustangs.
Williams and Mazaraki have been a dynamic duo at No. 3 doubles for Midwestern State. Williams, a senior from Austin, Texas, and Mazaraki, a sophomore from Sydney, Australia, were 14-4 during the regular season. The duo won seven of nine matches against LSC opponents and were an integral part of the Mustangs winning the doubles' point in 16 of their 22 regular season duals.
Yip, a geosciences major, was selected to the six-member All-Academic Team and was joined by Binzari, who is a mass communications major at Midwestern State.
The Mustangs are the No. 2-seed in the 2025 LSC Women's Tennis Championship and face the winner of the quarterfinal dual between No. 3-seed Lubbock Christian and No. 6-seed Dallas Baptist. The semifinals get underway at 1 p.m. on Friday.
