Mustangs move up six spots to No. 28 in ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings

WICHITA FALLS, Texas, -- Midwestern State is moving back up in the ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings. The Mustangs moved six spots this week to No. 28 with an 11-5 overall record and a 3-1 mark in the Lone Star Conference.

Angelo State is the only LSC school ranked ahead of the Mustangs at No. 24. The Rambelles (17-0, 4-0) defeated Midwestern State at ASU Tennis Courts last month, 4-3, but the Mustangs rebounded with a 6-1 victory over Lubbock Christian and a 7-0 triumph over UT Permian Basin.

No. 2-ranked West Florida, No. 4-ranked West Alabama and No. 18-ranked Washburn have also posted wins over MSU this spring.

UT Tyler is ranked No. 31 and is the only other LSC program among the top-50 in the ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings.  The Patriots host the Mustangs on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Selin Sepken is 20-2 in singles matches dating back to the fall campaign, including exhibition duals this spring, and she currently has a seven-match winning streak with a 12-1 record at No. 1 singles for the Mustangs. The fifth-year senior from Turkey is ranked No. 7 among NCAA Division II singles players.

Emilia Gyorgy has a 14-6 overall record while donning the maroon and gold and won eight of her last nine singles matches in duals for the Mustangs. The freshman from Hungary is No. 67 in the latest ITA Rankings. Gyorgy is 2-3 when facing nationally ranked foes in dual matches this spring.

Sepken and Gyorgy are ranked No. 11 in doubles. The duo is 10-6 at No. 1 doubles this spring with a 3-3 record against nationally ranked opponents.

Gyorgy played alongside Camila Garcia in the fall and based on their 7-1 record the pairing is ranked No. 15, but they have not teamed up since Oct. 18.

Garcia and Jasmine Crain have been a dynamic duo this spring at No. 2 doubles. They are 15-1 and just had a 14-match winning streak snapped against Lubbock Christian on Friday, but the pairing has not broken into the ITA rankings this season.

Midwestern State is at UT Dallas for a dual match on Friday. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
