RICHARDSON, Texas – No. 28-ranked Midwestern State is on the road for its next four dual matches and will visit UT Dallas on Friday before traveling to UT Tyler for a Saturday matchup. First serve at UTD Tennis Complex is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Friday, and the first ball will be struck at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
Midwestern State (11-5, 3-1) improved to 6-0 at home with back-to-back wins last week against Lubbock Christian and UT Permian Basin. The Mustangs are 2-3 in away duals this season, and their only conference defeat came at Angelo State.
Midwestern State is 35-10 in doubles matches and has earned the doubles point in 14 of 16 dual matches this season. MSU has taken a 1-0 lead by winning doubles in all five duals as the visiting team this spring.
Camila Garcia and
Jasmine Crain boast a 15-1 record at No. 2 doubles this season and they are 5-0 in hostile territory. Their only loss came at home last week as Oshini Herath and Alexandra Luders of Lubbock Christian rallied to score a surprising 6-4 victory.
Hattie Berend and
Alessia Dolce have been unbeatable since taking over at No. 3 doubles. The duo improved to 8-0 with a 6-1 victory over Alyssa Glasgow and Peyton Jones of UT Permian Basin, improving to 4-0 in conference matches.
Emilia Gyorgy and
Selin Sepken, No. 11 in the latest ITA Collegiate Rankings among NCAA Division II doubles pairings, have played No. 1 doubles in 15 dual matches this season, and they are 10-6 overall. The duo is 3-3 against nationally ranked opponents but has won only one of its four matches in Lone Star Conference competition.
Sepken, ranked No. 7 in singles, has been a stalwart in the No. 1 spot for the Mustangs. The fifth-year senior from Turkey is 12-1 with a seven-match winning streak. Sepken is 2-1 against opponent appearing in the national rankings.
Gyorgy, a freshman from Hungary, won eight of her last nine singles matches for the Mustangs and is No. 67 in the latest ITA Rankings. Gyorgy is 11-5 this spring, playing 15 matches at No. 2 singles, and she is 2-3 when facing nationally ranked foes in dual matches.
Garcia extended her winning streak to seven matches and improved to 13-2 this season with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Sophia Rashid of UTPB on Sunday. The sophomore from Colombia has won nine matches in straight sets at No. 3 singles for the Mustangs. Garcia has upended two nationally ranked opponents this season, including a 7-5, 6-3 win over No. 54-ranked Danai Amangazhiyeva of Angelo State in the Mustangs last away dual.
Dolce won five of her last seven singles matches and posted back-to-back wins at home last week, defeating Kristel Jativa of Lubbock Christian 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) and cruising past Mattea Bowe of UTPB 6-2, 6-3. The sophomore from Italy is 8-6 overall this season with her last eight starts coming at No. 4 singles.
Crain, a freshman from Edmond, Oklahoma, has settled in nicely at the No. 5 spot for the Mustangs, winning six of her last eight completed matches. Crain started that stretch with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Laura Mertens of Northeastern State at No. 4 singles, but she has played No. 5 singles in each of the last eight dual matches. Crain was leading an unfinished match with Vict Ricaurte-Cabas of Hawaii Hilo 6-4, 4-3 just before the conference campaign began, and she is 3-1 against LSC opponents.
Berend improved to 3-1 in conference duals with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Sophia Crosby of UT Permian Basin on Sunday. The junior from Wichita Falls won five of her last seven matches since taking over No. 6 singles for the Mustangs, who are 5-9 as a team at Line 6 this season.
UT DALLAS (6-7, 3-1)
UT Dallas is in its first season as a member of the LSC and after a 6-1 loss to Lubbock Christian in its conference opener, UTD has reeled off three straight wins, defeating UT Permian Basin, 4-3, sweeping Sul Ross State, 7-0, and scoring a 5-2 victory on the road at Western New Mexico.
UT Dallas is 34-36 in singles matches, including an 11-7 record against conference opponents.
Presley Churchman has a six-match winning streak and made her first No. 1 singles appearance at Western New Mexico and defeated Nikoletta Pytel, 7-5, 6-3. Churchman improved to 8-3 and picked up the Comets fourth win at No. 1 singles.
Sheryl Gerald is 5-1 at No. 4 singles for the Comets and has a three-match winning streak. She is 4-2 at No. 5 singles, where Namrata Makhija is 3-2 and has posted back-to-back wins for UTD.
The Comets are 22-14 in doubles with a 9-3 record at No. 2 doubles, where Gerald and Churchman have a 6-2 record. UTD has won the doubles point in seven dual matches this season.
UT TYLER (12-5, 4-0)
UT Tyler is 7-2 at home this season and has won its last six duals, including a 7-0 triumph at Western New Mexico. It was the fourth consecutive 7-0 win for the Patriots, who are ranked No. 31 in the ITA Collegiate Rankings.
Midwestern State leads the all-time series with UT Tyler 8-0 and won their last visit in 2023, 4-3. The last two encounters have taken place at MSU Tennis Center, and the Mustangs won the dual last year, 5-2, after defeating the Patriots in 2024, 6-1.
The Patriots host Cameron on Friday before meeting the Mustangs on Saturday.
UT Tyler is 67-29 in singles matches with a winning record at every position.
Yona Bancarel is 10-3 at No. 1 singles and has a five-match winning streak and has not dropped a set in that span.
Natalia Gorzny has a seven-match winning streak, and she has not dropped a set since falling to Ami Miya of North Georgia on March 11, 6-7 (3), 2-6.
Maria Antonio Ortega has 10-match winning streak and is 10-1 at No. 3 singles for the Patriots, who are 9-7 at both No. 4 and No. 6 singles, using four different players at both lines.
The Patriots are 11-4 at No. 5 singles. Claudia Rodier is one of five players with a record at Line 5, and she defeated Xaviera Melgar of Western New Mexico, 6-1, 6-0, in their last dual.
UT Tyler is 29-21 in in doubles. The Patriots have won the doubles point 10 times this season and have not lost a doubles match in their last four duals.
