WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- No. 3-ranked Midwestern State was able to grind out its 13th straight victory on Thursday afternoon at MSU Tennis Center, defeating No. 23-ranked UT Tyler, 5-2.
Midwestern State improved to 19-1 overall with a 7-0 record against Lone Star Conference opponents.
Camila Garcia clinched the victory for the Mustangs with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-0 triumph over hard-hitting Allison Schwartz at No. 5 singles. Garcia won her fourth consecutive match and improved to 10-3 for the season. The freshman from Colombia is 4-1 in the LSC.
Garcia and
Hannah Yip, No. 40 in the ITA doubles rankings, opened the dual match with a 6-3 victory over Carla Rodier and Allison Schwartz at No. 2 doubles, but the Patriots would claim the doubles point.

Sydney Williams and
Sarah Mazaraki at No. 3 doubles with a 6-4 victory. Williams and Mazaraki had reeled off nine consecutive victories before the loss and fell to 13-3 for the season. It was their first loss in seven conference matches.
Yona Bancarel and Natalia Gorzny, No. 48 in the ITA rankings, secured a 1-0 lead for the Patriots by upsetting the No. 15-ranked pairing of
Jessica Binzari and
Anda Ghinga at No. 1 doubles, 6-4. Ghinga and Binzari saw a four-match winning streak halted and fell to 12-6 for the season.
The Mustangs were undeterred, and won five of the six singles matches en route to victory.
Yip was able to zip past Gorzny at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-2 and pulled the Mustangs even in the dual match. Yip improved to 11-4 in the No. 2 slot and scored her third straight win for the Mustangs. The senior from Malaysia is 6-2 against LSC opposition this season.
Williams continues to sizzle at No. 6 singles as she defeated Luisa Moraes, 7-5, 6-2, improving to 8-2 overall and extending her winning streak to seven matches. The senior from Austin, Texas, is 4-0 in conference duals.
Sofia Giraldo brought Midwestern State to the brink of victory with a ninth consecutive straight-set win for the Mustangs. The sophomore from Colombia frustrated Castellanos on her way to a 6-4, 6-3 triumph. Giraldo is 14-5 overall this season and 8-0 in LSC matches.
Giraldo's victory broke a 2-2 tie in the dual match after No. 67-ranked Bancarel battled her way to a 6-4, 6-4 win over No. 5-ranked Binzari at No. 1 singles. Binzari fell to a nationally ranked opponent for the first time in four matches this season, and the senior from Romania is 11-3 at No. 1 singles for the Mustangs with all three losses coming in conference play.
Anda Ghinga polished off the victory for the Mustangs with her 10th straight win as she outdueled Rodier at No. 3 singles, 7-6 (3), 6-1. Ghinga has a school record 66 career singles wins at Midwestern State and improved to 16-2 this spring. The senior from Romania is 7-0 in conference clashes.
Midwestern State returns to the courts at MSU Tennis Center on Friday morning for a 10 a.m. dual match with No. 38-ranked Dallas Baptist.
