BEAUMONT, Texas -- Midwestern State's Makenna Henry continued her stellar play through the opening 36 holes of the Lamar Cardinal Challenge Monday at the Beaumont Country Club.

The reigning Lone Star Conference Golfer of the Week led the Mustangs by firing scores of 74 and 73 for a 3-over total of 147 to stand third on the individual leader board.

"Makenna has been on a roll," MSU coach Jeff Ray said. "She hasn't had a bad round this spring. She's attacking pins and she is hitting the ball so solid. She is putting herself in good position off of the tee. That's important on this golf course."

Henry is in great position to achieve her fourth-straight individual Top 10 finish, but the Sour Lake, Texas, native had plenty of help to keep the Mustangs toward the top of the team leader board.

Fellow senior Brecklyn Flanagan (75-76) and junior Alli Reily (74-77) are tied for sixth with 7-over totals of 151, while junior Kodi Nolen marked scores of 78 and 81 for a 15-over 159.

Freshman Mary Kerr (80-83) is 23rd with a 19-over 163, while sophomore Madison Wert followed a season low 73 in the opening round with an 80 to stand 12th with a 9-over total of 153 competing as an individual only.
< br=""> Midwestern State is second on the team leader board, firing team totals of 301 and 307 for a 32-over composite of 608. The Mustangs trail Texas State (585/+17) by 15 strokes.

Texas State's Miren Ontanon carded scores of 69 and 72 to take the individual lead with a 3-under total of 141.
The final round of the Lamar Cardinal Challenge begins with a shotgun start Tuesday morning at 8:30.
