BOSTON -- Midwestern State's
Nidhi Singh reached her desired goal on the fast track of the Boston University Track & Tennis Facility Sunday in the Last Chance National Qualifier.
The senior from Thane, India, delivered the fifth-fastest performance this season on the way to a third-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:06.48.
Singh shaved 4.19 seconds off of her school record time of 2:10.67 set in December at Pittsburg State's Crimson & Gold Invitational.
Singh will compete in the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships set for March 13-15 at the Indiana Farm Bureau Fall Creek Pavilion in Indianapolis.
Interestingly, four of the top five and seven of the best 10 times in the 800-meter run took place on the indoor track on the Boston University campus.
Colorado State-Pueblo's Helen Braybrook turned in the top time in NCAA Division II this season with a 2:03.90 at the Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White Invitational in February, wh ile Academy of Art (Calif.) senior Lina Hanich produced the second fastest mark at 2:03.90 on Sunday.
West Texas A&M freshman Abigail Abugire ran the Lone Star Conference's fastest 800-meter time of 2:06.34 at the facility during the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, which as just .14 seconds faster than Singh.
Midwestern State's 4x400-meter relay squad of
Jessie Heath,
Trell'Kyrah Watkins,
Maggie Neal, and Singh finished fifth on Sunday, but failed to improve upon the previous mark of 3:43.87, which ranks 21st on the NCAA Division II performance chart.
