WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State went 10-under over the final nine holes to overtake the top two junior colleges in the country to win the home tournament Tuesday afternoon at the Wichita Falls Country Club.

The Mustangs won the Midwestern State Invitational for the fifth time in the 16-year history of the event. MSU also claimed titles in 2013, 2017, 2018, and 2021.

Freshman Ryan Griff sparked the sensational run with five birdies over an eight-hole stretch on his way to a season low, 3-under 68.

Senior Gatlin Goad pitched in with his fourth round in the 60s by recording three birdies with a single birdie for a 2-under 69, while junior Seth Bearden did his normal thing, turning in his 14th par-or-better score by carding three birdies on his way to a 1-under 70.

Senior James Perry recovered from a bumpy run in the middle of the Front Nine to deliver a solid fourth score for the Mustangs with a 1-over 72.

MSU scored a 5-under team total of 279 to finish with a 5-over, 54-hole team total of 857 to finish ahead of No. 2-ranked (in junior college) Odessa College (861/+9) and No. 3-ranked Midland College (866/+14).

Bearden (71-72-70) placed third on the individual leader board with an even-par 213, while Perry (74-68-72) enjoyed his best finish of the season by tying for fourth with a 1-over 214.

Griff's strong finish propelled him to his best finish as a collegiate thus far, firing scores of 74, 77, and 68 for a 6-over 219.

Seniors Gatlin Goad (78-75-69) and Trevor Walsh (76-69-79) tied for 24th with matching, 9-over totals of 224.

UT Permian Basin junior Will Tate claimed individual medalist honors by carding scores of 65, 70, and 72 for a 6-under total of 207 to win by five strokes over Odessa College's Chase Williams.

Freshman Bryce Hoech (75-75-75) led MSU's quartet of golfers competing as individuals only by tying for 36th with a 12-over total of 225.

Sophomore Hank Germany (76-73-78) tied for 46th with a 14-over 227, freshman Boo Moerschell (77-80-74) tied for 61st with an 18-over 231, and sophomore Nathan Nelson (76-75-81) tied for 63rd with a 19-over 232.

Midwestern State competes in the Ruidoso Junior Golf Association's Palm Valley Classic in Goodyear, Arizona, on April 7-8.
