INDIANAPOLIS -- Midwestern State's
Nidhi Singh clocked a time of 2:06.84 to finish fifth in the finals of the 800-meter run Saturday afternoon in the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championship at the Indiana Farm Bureau Pavilion.
Singh became the first student-athlete to score points in an NCAA Division II Championship meet and is just the second Mustang to compete at the indoor championships.
The Thane, India, native narrowly missed out on her personal best time of 2:06.48 set at the Boston University Last Chance Meet at the beginning of the month.
Colorado State-Pueblo junior Helen Braybrook won the individual championship in the 800 with a time of 2:04.72, followed by Azusa Pacific senior Olivia Alexandre (2:06.20), Adams State junior Lieke Hoogsteen (2:06.22), Ashland junior Jade Avance (2:06.27), and Singh.
Singh finished ahead of Lone Star Conference champion Abigail Abugire (2:07.22), U-Mary senior Elizabeth Acheson (2:07.83), and Academy of Art senior Lina Hanich (2:08.41).
Former Midwestern State standout Ashley Flores qualified for the 2015 NCAA Division II Championships, finishing 15th in the mile with time of 5:00.56 in Birmingham, Alabama.
Midwestern State begins the outdoor season on March 21-22 with Abilene Christian's Wes Kittley Invitational at Elmer Gray Stadium.
