Midwestern State sweeps TWU with timely hitting

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State got timely hitting throughout the afternoon and swept a doubleheader with a pair of one-run wins over Texas Woman's at Mustangs Park on Friday afternoon. Midwestern State won the opener, 4-3, and took the nightcap, 7-6.  Camile Nunez was 4-for-7 in the doubleheader. Jessika Roberts belted an RBI double in Game 1 and a two-run homer in Game 2. Sydney Linn hit her first homer as a Mustang in Game 2, and she scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to complete the sweep of the Pioneers.
 

GAME 1 | Midwestern State 4, Texas Woman's 3

Midwestern State rallied from down 3-0 in the sixth inning to defeat Texas Woman's, 4-3, at Mustangs Park on Friday afternoon

Sophomore Addison Lindemann (3-5) picked up the win in relief for Midwestern State (5-13, 2-7). The right-hander went 1 1/3 shutout innings without giving up a hit, allowing no walks and striking out one.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Riley Todd homered in the top of the sixth inning to give TWU a 3-0 lead, but Midwestern State put up four runs in the home-half of the inning. Emma Roach hit a two-run double. Jessika Roberts also delivered an RBI double, and Lindemann drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.

The Midwestern State Mustangs earned a win in walk-off fashion, responding to score one in the bottom of the seventh after Texas Woman's tied it up in the top half, sealing the victory with junior Tatum Waller at the plate to beat the Pioneers 7-6 Friday.

Sophomore Shyanne Florence (1-1) started in the circle and picked up the win for Midwestern State (6-13, 3-7). The right-hander went two innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on two hits, allowing two walks and striking out one. Sophomore Addison Lindemann also made an impact in the circle for the Mustangs, starting the ballgame and throwing five innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on four hits, with three walks and four strikeouts.

In the batter's box, the Mustangs were paced by sophomore Sydney Linn, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a home run and two RBI. Senior Jessika Roberts compiled a standout day at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. Senior Camile Nunez also chipped in for Midwestern State, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding two doubles and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Mustangs got on the scoreboard first, starting in the third inning. Midwestern State's offense produced a three-run output that included home runs from both Roberts and Linn.

The Pioneers then tied the ballgame at three before the Mustangs came back to reclaim their advantage in the fifth inning. which brought the Mustangs lead to 6-3.

Texas Woman's then rallied to tie the ballgame at 6-6 before Midwestern State walked it off in the bottom of the seventh when Linn came across to score.
