Zarria Carter delivered her 16th double-double of the season with 24 points and 12 rebounds and
Kerbie Cash scored 20 points to lead the Mustangs to a 63-47 win over Texas A&M International Saturday afternoon at TAMIU's Kinesiology and Convocation Building.
MSU improved to 13-14 on the season and 11-10 in Lone Star Conference play, and stayed in the hunt for a postseason berth.
The Mustangs moved into a tie with UT Permian Basin for the eighth and final berth in the LSC Postseason Tournament set for March 6-9 at the Comerica Center in Frisco.
To claim the spot, MSU must defeat No. 12-ranked Lubbock Christian Thursday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. The victory would give the Mustangs the tiebreaking edge over UTPB. The Mustangs and Lady Chaps tipoff at 5:30 p.m.
The Mustangs led from tip-to-buzzer Saturday against Texas A&M International, leading by as many as 21 points when Cash converted a layup for a 62-41 advantage with 3:29 to play.
Carter reached a milestone with 1,000 career point as a Mustang on a made jump shot with a 1:32 left in the second period as she raised her season averages to 20.8 points and 10.9 rebounds per game. She finished the game with a 1,006 career points over the past two seasons with the Maroon & Gold.
Carter has scored 20-or-more points in 14 games this season and finished with 19 points four other times.
Cash delivered her fifth 20-point effort of the campaign by hitting 9-of-15 shots form the field to finish with 20 points, while grabbing seven rebounds, and dishing out four assists before fouling out in 28 minutes.
Freshman guard
Carisa Cortez directed the offense, dishing out eight assists, while committing one turnover in 38 minutes.
Junior forward Josie Igherighe led Texas A&M International with 18 points and 12 rebounds.
The Dustdevils fell to 5-21 on the season and to 4-16 in league play.
