Jimenez drives home five runs as Midwestern State defeats St. Edward's, 11-6

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Senior shortstop Myranda Jimenez finished with three hits and five RBIs as Midwestern State earned its first Lone Star Conference win of the year. The Mustangs outslugged St. Edward's to take the second game of the twinbill on Sunday afternoon, 11-6.  Sydney Linn was 5-for-8 in the doubleheader, including two hits in Game 1, but the Hilltoppers held on to win the opener, 5-2.

Midwestern State is 4-9 overall with a 1-3 record in the conference.

GAME 1 | St. Edward's 5, Midwestern State 2

Though they had plenty of opportunities, Midwestern State had a hard time cashing them in, leaving 10 Mustangs on base in a 5-2 defeat at the hands of the St.Edward's.

Sophomore Shyanne Florence (0-1) started and took the loss in the circle for Midwestern State. Sophomore Kayleigh Bowers threw one shutout inning while allowing one hit, walking none and striking out one.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Mustangs got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. Junior Megan Ayala came across on a throwing error to score the lone run of the inning for Midwestern State.

Senior Myranda Jimenez racked up five RBIs to lead Midwestern State past the Hilltoppers, 11-6, on Sunday.

Sophomore Addison Lindemann (2-4) got the win out of the bullpen for Midwestern State. The right-hander went three innings, giving up four runs, all of them earned, on eight hits, allowing one walk and striking out one. Junior Sydney Gonzales also pitched well, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit.

Jimenez went 3-for-4 with a triple in addition to her five RBIs for the Mustangs. Sophomore Sydney Linn furnished a noteworthy performance as well, going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Junior Megan Ayala also chipped in for Midwestern State, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a walk and two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Mustangs were trailing 1-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board. Midwestern State got on the board thanks to Linn's RBI double.

The Hilltoppers then scored one run to retake their advantage heading into the fourth inning, when the Mustangs responded by getting back on the scoreboard themselves. which brought the Mustangs lead to 4-2.

St. Edward's narrowed Midwestern State's lead to 4-3 before the Mustangs stretched the advantage to 8-3 in the fifth inning. The Mustangs bats heated up in the inning, scoring four runs.

The Hilltoppers fought back, closing the gap to 8-4 until Midwestern State added some insurance in the sixth. Jimenez's triple pushed all three runs across for the Mustangs in the frame, bringing the Midwestern State advantage to 11-4. Saint Edward's put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Mustangs still earned an 11-6 win.
