WICHITA FALLS, Texas – After defeating No. 1-ranked Dallas Baptist 2-0 in the regular season finale,
Bella Rose and
Lauren Short received Lone Star Conference Defensive Player and Goalkeeper of the Week honors, respectively.
Dallas Baptist averages more than 3.6 goals per game and scored 62 goals during the regular season, 22 more than Texas Woman's, the second-highest scoring team in the LSC. But Dallas Baptist was limited to a season-low five shots on goal by MSU and was shut out for the first time this season.
The Patriots had not lost a regular season home match since 2021, and the Mustangs earned their first win over DBU as a conference opponent.
Rose is a freshman from Wichita Falls, who lettered in soccer, volleyball, track and basketball at Christ Academy, and has played more than 1,500 minutes with 17 starts as a center back for the Mustangs this season. She played a full 90 minutes in 15 matches and was in for 88 minutes against Ouachita Baptist.
Rose was a pivotal figure as the Mustangs posted their seventh shutout of the season against the nation's top-ranked team in NCAA Division II.
Short is also a freshman, and the goalkeeper improved to 5-1-2 as she equaled a career-high with five saves in the win over Dallas Baptist.
Short was making her seventh start and ninth appearance of the season. The native of Frisco, Texas, started the final five games of the regular season for the Mustangs.
Mable Pruter and
Lillia Besedin have also received weekly honors this season. Pruter and Besedin were each named LSC Defensive Player of the Week in back-to-back weeks last month.
Midwestern State is the No. 2 seed in the LSC 2025 Women's Soccer Championship and hosts St. Edward's in a quarterfinal match on Monday at 7 p.m.
