Mustangs hosting Hilltoppers in LSC quarterfinal

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – No. 2-seeded Midwestern State hosts St. Edward's in the Lone Star Conference 2025 Women's Soccer Championship quarterfinals at Stang Park on Monday night at 7 p.m.

Midwestern State (10-1-6, 10-0-4) has a 15-game unbeaten streak overall, and the Mustangs are unbeaten in their last 19 matches at Stang Park, including a 6-0-1 record on its home ground this season. MSU is ranked fifth in the most recent regional rankings.

The Mustangs closed out the regular season with a 2-0 victory over No. 1-ranked and previously undefeated Dallas Baptist at Patriot Soccer Field. Lillia Besedin and Nyxalee Munoz scored goals, and Lauren Short made five saves for the Mustangs, who matched a school record with their 10th conference win. MSU set a school record for points in a conference campaign with 34.

Midwestern State is outscoring opponents, 39-16, and takes nearly 10 shots more than its opponent per game. The Mustangs have 122 shots on goal this season, while their foes have only managed 49. No team has more than five shots on goal in a game against the Mustangs since a season-opening 2-2 draw with Southern Nazarene, which put seven shots on goal.

Besedin leads the team with eight goals and 16 points. Munoz and Marelene Myrvold each have six goals. Myrvold has 14 points, while Munoz has 13.

Mable Pruter leads the Mustangs with seven assists, and Leeci Snyder has set up five goals this season. Madison Brinkley has three goals and two assists, while Morgan Countryman has two goals and three assists.

Alinessa Salinas, Abbey Lee and Bella Rose have all scored two goals for the Mustangs.

Midwestern State is 8-9-6 all-time against St. Edward's but broke a five-game winless streak in the series with a 2-1 victory at Stang Park on Oct. 4.

Marie Hannedouche put the Hilltoppers in front with a goal in the 22nd minute, but Munoz and Myrvold found the back of the net in the second half, and MSU allowed just one other shot on goal during the victory.

St. Edward's (7-9-3, 6-6-2) alternated wins and losses over its last seven games of the regular season and claimed the No. 8 seed in the LSC Championship.

Annie Rocha was injured during the game against Midwestern State and missed the remainder of the regular season, but the Hilltoppers leading goal scorer returned to the pitch in the opening round game of the LSC Championship and propelled the Hilltoppers into the quarterfinals.

Rocha, who entered in the 38th minute, scored in the 42nd minute and netted the game winner in a 5-4 PK shootout after the Hilltoppers and Lubbock Christian played a 1-1 draw through 110 minutes in Lubbock on Friday night.

Rocha has seven goals this season in 11 matches, and Hannedouche, who scored her first goal of the season at MSU, has six goals and four assists for the Hilltoppers.

Goalkeeper Daria Schlumbohm has a 7-9-3 record with a 1.33 goals-against average, and she made three saves in the regular season matchup with Midwestern State.

The winner of Monday's quarterfinal will meet either Texas Woman's or St. Mary's in the semifinals at Dallas Baptist on Thursday night at 7 :30 p.m. DBU is the No. 1 seed and is awaiting the winner of the UT Tyler vs. Angelo State quarterfinal match.
