WICHITA FALLS, Texas — Midwestern State (11-1-6, 10-0-4) secured a 2-0 victory over St. Edward's University (7-10-3, 6-6-2) in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Lone Star Conference Women's Soccer Championship at Stang Park.
Midwestern State extended its unbeaten streak this season to 16 games, and the Mustangs have not lost in their last 20 matches at Stang Park.
The match between Midwestern State and St. Edward's started with both teams vying for control. MSU took an early offensive stance, with
Lillia Besedin and
Leeci Snyder each attempting shots that went wide. In the 31st minute,
Marlene Myrvold scored the lone goal of the half, assisted by
Mable Pruter, giving the Maroon & Gold a 1-0 lead.
St. Edward's struggled to find opportunities, while their defense faced continuous pressure, resulting in multiple fouls and yellow cards, including one issued to Rainey Simmons in the 21st minute. The period concluded with Midwestern State maintaining its one-goal advantage.
Midwestern State extended its lead through a goal by
Nyxalee Munoz in the 64th minute, assisted by
Jasmine Montgomery. The home team applied pressure with multiple corner kicks, including one in the 76th minute. Despite a late attempt from St. Edward's Katie Fitzpatrick in the 81st minute,
Lauren Short made a crucial save to maintain the shutout. The match concluded with Midwestern State securing a 2-0 victory.
Midwestern State faces Texas Woman's in the semifinals on Thursday night at Patriot Soccer Field in Dallas on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. TWU defeated St. Mary's 1-0 in overtime of its quarterfinal match at Pioneer Soccer Park in Denton, Texas, on Monday night. Dallas Baptist hosts UT Tyler in the other semifinal match on Thursday.
