WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State is sending seven players — four men and three women — to the 2025 ITA Cup in Rome, Georgia. The tournament is scheduled for Oct. 16-19 at the Rome Tennis Center.
Midwestern State will have the largest contingent at the event formerly known as the Small College Nationals.
Juan David Duque and
Bruno Sanchez earned an automatic bid and are the No. 4 seed in the 16-team draw for men's doubles. Sanchez, a junior from Spain, is making his second appearance at the prestigious event after competing in singles last year.
Duque, a senior from Colombia, has been a reliable performer for the Mustangs in singles and doubles since his freshman campaign in 2023.
Germano Setti and
Matthew Earle, who lost to Duque and Sanchez in the ITA DII Men's South Central Regional Championships final, 6-4, 4-6, 10-7, are also in the draw.
Earle was the No. 2 seed with his partner Tim Hammes at Washburn last year, and the duo lifted the trophy after defeating Luis Iriarte and Eduardo Cohen of St. Leo, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.
Setti played alongside
Stephen Slocombe in the doubles tournament last year. The senior from Brazil is also one of 16 singles players in this year's tournament.
Selin Sepken is playing singles in the women's tournament. The fifth-year senior from Turkey transferred to MSU from Idaho and was the No. 10 seed in the ITA South Central Regional Championship. Sepkin reeled off six consecutive straight-set victories, culminating with a 6-0, 7-5 triumph over No. 3-seed Margaux Rene of Angelo State in the final to earn the automatic bid.
Camila Garcia and
Emilia Gyorgy received an automatic berth in doubles. The No. 4 seed in the ITA South Central Regional Championships defeated the top-seeded pairing of Natalia Gorzny and Yona Bacarel of UT Tyler in the semifinals, 8-3, before defeating No. 8-seeded Gio Posito and Karol Alessia Terlizzi of St. Mary's in the final, 6-1, 6-1.
Garcia was a key contributor to the Mustangs semifinal run at the NCAA Women's Tennis Championship as a freshman last season, scoring two singles victories at the national tournament in Orlando, Florida.
Gyorgy, a freshman from Szentendre, Hungary, is making her presence felt early in her career at Midwestern State.
More than 8,000 players participated in 60 regional tournaments to gain entry into the elite ITA Cup field.
