FORT WORTH, Texas — Midwestern State Women's Cross Country took home second place at the Lone Star Conference Cross Country Championships, its highest finish at the championships since 2018, on Saturday morning. During the 6K race at AP Ranch,
Ella Pando and
Jadyn Dangerfield led the team with 9
th and 10
th place finishes, respectively.
The Mustangs took second place of 15 teams, finishing behind West Texas A&M (37 total points) with 77 total points, and beat out 3
rd place UT Tyler by just three points (80 points) in team scoring. A charge in the final 3 km helped the Mustangs leap the Patriots of UTT, going past the UT Tyler in team scoring during the final half of the race. The Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M claimed their 3
rd straight conference championship, and fifth overall.
Pando and Dangerfield's top 15 finishes both earned the seniors all-conference honors, with Pando garnering the accolade for the third straight season, while Dangerfield wins the all-conference accolade for the first time. Pando was with the top finisher for the Mustangs with a 21:52.96 time in the 6K race. Dangerfield finished right after Pando in 10
th, turning in a 22:07.73 mark.
Rosalene Reyes Perez turned in a collegiate best performance, running a 22:28.92 to take 17
th place.
Grace Pineda followed (22:38.71, 19
th), while
Konnar McClendon posted a collegiate best time of 22:40.46 (22
nd) to round out the top-five runners for MSU.
Perla Flores was the 6
th fastest Mustang, clocking a 22:58.38 to take 28
th place in the race.
Isabel Hernandez rounded out the scoring for MSU in 45
th place, finishing the 6K course in 23:57.82.
Jazira Perez crossed the line in 24:22.05, finishing in 54
th, while
Jackie Earley finished 71
st with time of 25:12.99.
The Mustangs now head to Colorado to compete in the South Central Regional, hosted at the Pueblo Country Club. MSU will have two weeks before they head to Pueblo, Colo., with the regional championships taking place on Saturday, Nov. 8.
