AMARILLO, Texas – Midwestern State will be in a field of 15 schools competing in the Ryan Palmer Foundation Invitational, hosted by West Texas A&M, at Amarillo Country Club on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Midwestern State is coming off a second-place finish at the National Preview in Boulder City, Nevada, led by
Seth Bearden's individual title. The Mustangs finished two strokes behind Lynn University at 26-under 838.
Bearden won the fifth tournament of his MSU career with a 13-under 203 through 54 holes at Boulder Creek Golf Club.
Midwestern State led all teams with 67 birdies and five eagles. Bearden led the field with 19 birdies.
Anniston McIlwain tied for 11th place with a 7-under 209, shooting 11-under on the 12 par-5s.
Bryce Hoech finished tied for 29th at 1-under 215.
Hank Germany,
Ryan Griff and
Nathan Nelson each completed the tournament at even-par 216 and tied for 39th place.
Last year, Midwestern State finished fourth at the Ryan Palmer Foundation Invitational, finishing at 3-under 387. Oklahoma Christian won the tournament shooting 26-under 814. Colorado Mesa was 19-under 821 and West Texas A&M was five-under 825.
Bearden finished in a tie for 34th place at 3-over 313, and Griff tied for 44th at 5-over 215.
Amarillo Country Club, which was established in 1919, was completely renovated in 2012 by five-time PGA Tour winner D. A. Weibring and Golf Course Architect Steve Wolfard.
The par70, 6,465-yard course features bent-grass greens with Bermuda-grass fairways.
The weather forecast in Amarillo is calling for partly cloudy skies, southeasterly wind at 15-20 mph and a high of 78 degrees on Tuesday. Wednesday's forecast is: mostly sunny skies with a high temperature of 80 degrees and southerly winds at 15-25 mph.
