Tanner Sorenson recorded the first shutout of the season for MSU with two saves, contributing to the team's first road win of the year.
Midwestern State began the match with an early lead, as
Madison Brinkley scored in the 2nd minute. Oklahoma Christian responded with offensive pressure, including a shot by Raquel Fanelli in the 3rd minute, which was saved by Sorenson. Throughout the half, both teams exchanged shots and corner kicks, with the Eagles earning three corner opportunities and MSU gaining four. The period concluded with a series of fouls and shots, but the Mustangs maintained their 1-0 advantage going into the break.
Maroon & Gold solidified their lead against OC in the second period with a goal in the 78th minute.
Alinessa Salinas, assisted by
Jimena Rodriguez, secured the visitors' second goal, bringing the score to 2-0. OC had opportunities to respond, including a shot by Sophie Placke in the 67th minute that was saved by Sorenson. Breanna Wooten, OC's goalkeeper, made several critical saves, including two attempts by
Allessandra Romano at the 56th and 61st minutes. Despite these efforts, OC could not break through Mustangs' defense as the period concluded with a 2-0 victory for the visitors.
The Mustangs will host St. Edward's at Stang Park on Saturday at 11 a.m.
