Women's Soccer completes comeback victory over St. Edward's on Senior Day

MSU scored twice in the second half to secure the victory.

WICHITA FALLS, Texas — Midwestern St. (4-1-4, 4-0-2) secured a 2-1 victory over St. Edward's (2-6-2, 1-3-2) on Saturday at Stang Park, scoring both goals in the second half to overcome an early deficit.

The first half between Midwestern St. and St. Edward's saw an early advantage taken by the visitors. St. Edward's broke the deadlock in the 21st minute with a goal by Marie Hannedouche, assisted by Lane Rogers and Rainey Simmons, giving them a 1-0 lead. The Mustangs generated offensive opportunities, including three corner kicks in the opening 15 minutes, but were unable to capitalize. A notable save by MSU's goalkeeper, Tanner Sorenson, came in the 22nd minute when she stopped a shot from Riley Sisson, keeping the deficit to one goal by halftime.

Midwestern State's Nyxalee Munoz quickly leveled the match at 1-1 with a goal just 1:22 into the second half. The Hilltoppers attempted to respond with a shot by Taylor Williamson in the 47th minute, but it missed right. Despite being down a player after Binky Mendez received a red card in the 58th minute, the Maroon & Gold took the lead in the 74th minute. Marlene Myrvold scored the decisive goal, scoring from a set piece from by Mable Pruter, securing a 2-1 victory for MSU. The game concluded with SEU unable to capitalize on several opportunities, ending in a tense finish.

Myrvold scored the game-winning goal with her only shot on target. Munoz added a goal while taking five shots, two of which were on target. Pruter contributed an assist, enhancing the team's offensive efforts. Sorenson recorded one save in 24 minutes of play. Lauren Short earns the victory in net, playing 66 minutes for MSU, facing just one shot in the second half and none on goal.

Prior to the match, Midwestern State recognized four seniors as part of senior ceremonies: Munoz, Pruter, Lillia Besedin, and Allessandra Romano.

The Mustangs return to the familiar grounds of Stang Park to face off against West Texas A&M. The matchup is set for October 8 at 4:30 p.m. as they continue their campaign on home turf.
