WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State plays the second game of a three-game homestand on Thursday night as it hosts Colorado Mesa. The Mustangs are looking to extend a home unbeaten streak to 22 games. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Midwestern State (2-0-0) is coming off a 2-0 win over Ouachita Baptist on Sunday afternoon as Bella Pillow scored her second goal of the season in the 10th minute of the home opener, and Binky Mendez scored the second goal of the game in the 72nd minute. Lauren Short only needed to make one save for her second clean sheet of the season. 

Midwestern State outshot the Tigers 24-3 and put seven shots on goal. The Mustangs hit the crossbar twice and had an apparent goal wiped out by a foul. 

Pillow earned LSC Defensive Player of the Week honors for her stellar play during the opening week of the season, including a goal in a 5-0 at Oklahoma Baptist in the season opener. 

Midwestern State has not allowed any opponent to put more than five shots on goal in their last 21 games. Southern Nazarene had seven shots on goal in the 2025 season opener. Through their first two games this season, the Stangs have only allowed one shot on goal and have not conceded a goal through the first 180 minutes of the campaign.

Lexi Gonzales has a goal and an assist for MSU. Ella Adams, Allie Cifuentes and McKynzi Hailey have also scored goals for the Mustangs. Izzy Amphlett, Bella Rose, Leeci Snyder and Sloane Sullivan all have an assist. 

Amphlett, a junior midfielder from Oxford, England, leads the team with six shots and four shots on goal and has played a total of 90 minutes in the first two games.

The Mustangs and Mavericks are meeting for the 11th time, and MSU leads the all-time series, 6-3-1, but Colorado Mesa won the last meeting, 2-1, in the opening round of the 2024 NCAA Division II South Central Regional. 

Midwestern State has won three of the four meetings at Stang Park, but the Mavericks will be making their first visit since 2015, when MSU earned a 3-0 victory.

Colorado Mesa is playing its season opener in Wichita Falls and is coming off one of the most successful seasons in the history of the program.  The Mavericks finished last season with a 14-4-2 record, including a 9-0-2 mark in the RMAC. Colorado Mesa did not concede a goal during conference play, but lost to Colorado School of Mines, 1-0, in the RMAC Women's Soccer Championship game despite outshooting the Orediggers, 31-3. CSM converted a penalty kick in the 52nd minute, which was its only shot on goal. The Mavericks put 11 shots on frame.

The Mavericks were eliminated in the first round of the NCAA DII Women's Soccer Championship by Texas Woman's in overtime, 1-0. It was the third straight appearance in the NCAA Regional Tournament for Colorado Mesa. 

All-American goalkeeper Keely Wieczorek leads a group of returning players, which includes defenders Sarah Dunn and Olivia Barrett, and forward Ellie Duncan. Wieczorek, Dunn, and Barrett were all named to the Preseason All-RMAC team and Duncan scored the second-most goals on the squad with four.

Jody Lingafeldt enters her third year as head coach at Colorado Mesa and boasts a record of 28-6-6. The Mavs are projected to finish second according to the RMAC preseason poll.

Ryan Spence is in his ninth season as head coach at Midwestern State, and his record at MSU is 63-59-27, while his career record is 68-68-33. Spence spent one season at Eastern New Mexico before returning to his alma mater, where he was a three-time All-American for the Mustangs.

Midwestern State completes its homestand against Central Oklahoma on Sunday afternoon. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
