NORMAN, Oklahoma -- Midwestern State's
Shalisa Williams set a school record,
Nidhi Singh fell 0.02 seconds shy of a second NCAA Division II provisional mark, and eight Mustangs set personal records in the Owen Hewlett Invitational Friday at OU's Mosier Indoor Track Facility.
Williams, a sophomore from Crowley, qualified for the finals of the invite second of the 60-meter hurdles with a school-record time of 9.30, then took eighth in the final, clocking a 9.43.
Singh won the invitational segment of the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.68, which was just 0.02 seconds off of the provisional qualifying time. She already posted a provisional time with her school record of 2:10.67 last month at Pittsburg State's Crimson & Gold Invitational.
The senior's time fell just shy of
Daiza Jones' record of 56.44 set last season.
Singh was one of four MSU student-athletes to run in second-best, all-time marks for the Mustangs on Friday.
Senior
Corinne Thorpe finished 15th the invitational section of the 60-meter dash with a PR time of 7.74, which fell just shy of Jaylen Hogue's school record time of 7.61 set in 2022.
Freshman
Kennedy Johnson's leap of 36 feet, 7 1/2 inches earned the Euless, Texas, native a sixth-place finish in the triple jump. The mark was also the second-best in program history.
Sophomore
Abby Cavender (16 feet, 7 inches) and Johnson (16 feet, 5 inches) also took 15th and 16th in the open section of the long jump. Cavender's mark was also the second-best in program history.
Junior
Trell'Kyrah Watkins set a PR time of 7.86 to place third in the open finals of the 60-meter dash, finishing just ahead of teammate
Daiza Jones, who finished eighth with a time of 8.08.
Watkins also headlined a strong showing for MSU in the 200-meter dash, taking third with a time of 25.91, finishing just head of
Karissa Nixon (26.24/4th) and Singh (26.43/5th).
Juniors
Ella Pando (5:26.95) and
Rosalene Reyes Perez (5:29.88) finished one-two in the mile run, while fellow junior
Lula Nolen led the way in the 3,000-meter run by finishing third in the invite section with a time of 10:45.44.
Midwestern State's next scheduled meet is the Stan Scott Invitational set for Friday, January 31 at Texas Tech Sports Performance Center.
