WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State is ranked fifth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's NCAA Division II Preseason Rankings released Wednesday afternoon.
The Mustangs return seven letter winners from last season's squad which posted a 22-5 record and advanced to the national semifinals for the first time in program history.
Senior
Jessica Binzari, who was the ITA South Central Region's Player to Watch last season, carries a No. 6 national singles ranking after claiming the ITA South Central Region individual championship last fall.
The native of Constanta, Romania, posted a 14-9 record while playing at the No. 1 singles' position last season and was a second-team All-LSC honoree in both singles and doubles.
Sophomore
Sofia Giraldo is ranked eighth in the ITA national single rankings on the heels of advancing to the ITA South Central Region semifinals.
The Cali, Colombia, native posted a 13-8 mark in a freshman campaign, while playing primarily at the No. 4 spot in the lineup.
Binzari also joins senior
Anda Ghinga as part of the 13th-ranked doubles team in NCAA Division II. The duo combined for a 15-9 record last season, including six wins over nationally ranked opponents.
Ghinga finished the 2024 campaign ranked 18th in the ITA national singles rankings to earn All-America honors. The Arad, Romania, native posted a 28-4 mark, competing at the No. 2 and 3 positions.
Senior
Hannah Yip earned second-team All-LSC honors in singles last season, going 19-5 including a perfect 12-0 mark at the No. 3 position.
Midwestern State also returns seniors
Kanaha Furutani and
Sydney Williams, as well as sophomore
Sarah Mazaraki.
The roster is bolstered by four newcomers, including sophomore
Hattie Berend and freshmen
Alessia Dolce,
Camila Garcia, and
Isabella Garza.
Midwestern State opens the campaign with a scrimmage against Collin College on Wednesday, February 5, in Plano.
