LUBBOCK, Texas -- Midwestern State opens conference play with a 4-1-0 record and faces Lubbock Christian at LCU Soccer & Track Facility on Wednesday night at 5 p.m.
The Mustangs are coming off their first loss of the season. Presley Whitmire scored in the 29th minute and Southern Missouri held on for a 1-0 victory at Hal Bodon Field in Joplin, Missouri, on Friday night. Midwestern State outshot the Lions in the second half, 9-3, but four of the 13 total shots were on goal for the Mustangs.
Midwestern State is third in the conference and 18th in the nation with 19 shots per game, and MSU is third in the LSC and 22nd in the nation with nine shots on goal per game.
The Mustangs are the second-best scoring offense in the conference with 2.4 goals per game, which is 30th among NCAA Division II programs. MSU is third in the LSC and 22nd in the nation with nine shots on goal per game.
MSU is second in the conference and 33rd in the nation with 12 total goals and is 48th in the nation with eight total assists, which is second-most in the LSC.
Madison Brinkley and
Cassidy Savoy have eight points apiece for the Mustangs. Brinkley is the leading goal scorer with four, and Savoy has three goals and two assists through five matches.
Sarah Hayes and
Nyxalee Munoz have each scored two goals for MSU, and
Allessandra Romano leads the conference with three assists this season.
Goalkeeper Allsion Dellis leads the LSC and is 21st in the nation with 33 total saves, and the sophomore from Denton, Texas, is second in the league with 6.60 saves per game, which is 26th-most in NCAA Division II.
Dellis also has the second-best save percentage in the conference and is 28th in the nation at .892.
Midwestern State leads the all-time series with Lubbock Christian, 3-2-0, and defeated the Lady Chaparrals at Stang Park last season, 1-0, as Savoy scored with a header in the 58th minute.
The Mustangs are making just their second appearance at the LCU Soccer Complex. In 2022, Lubbock Christian goalkeeper Abby Kone made five saves, and the Lady Chaps held on for a 1-0 victory after scoring in the 19th minute.
Lubbock Christian is unbeaten at home this season with a 2-0-1 record, posting wins over New Mexico Highlands and Adams State. The Lady Chaps played a 1-1 draw with Fort Lewis to open the season. Lubbock Christian is outscoring visitors, 6-2, this season.
Lubbock Christian is 2-2-1 overall and was shutout twice by opponents from the RMAC. No. 6-ranked Colorado School of Mines defeated LCU, 2-0, in Golden, Colorado. Three days later, Metropolitan State of Denver posted a 1-0 victory over the Lady Chaps.
Six different players have scored a goal for Lubbock Christian. Avery Jennings leads the team with four points, assisting on a pair of goals. Journey Curs and Ella Spiller each have a goal and an assist for the Lady Chaps.
Emma Wright has allowed four goals and made 22 saves as the Lady Chaps' goalkeeper. Her .846 save percentage is fifth-best in the LSC.
Lubbock Christian is leading the conference with six fouls per game.
Midwestern State returns home on Saturday to face UT Tyler. Kickoff at Stang Park is scheduled for 11 a.m.
