SILVER CITY, N.M. -- No. 3-ranked Midwestern State dominated the singles matches and earned its sixth consecutive dual-match victory with a 6-1 victory at the Western New Mexico Tennis Courts on Friday afternoon.

After dropping the doubles point at the start of the competition, Midwestern State won all six singles matches in straight sets and improved to 13-3 overall with a 5-0 record in the Lone Star Conference. Western New Mexico is 5-14 with a 1-5 record in the LSC and suffered its fourth straight dual-match defeat.

Skylar Minns, making her third appearance at No. 4 singles, clinched the victory for Midwestern State with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Andreea Arnautu. Minns has a five-match winning streak and improved to 9-5 for the season with two victories in the No. 4 position. Minns remains undefeated against LSC competition this season with a 5-0 record.

Anda Ghinga, ranked No. 42 in the nation, improved to 14-1 for the season with a 6-1, 6-2 pasting of Mann-Ning Li at No. 2 singles.

Ghinga and Jessica Binzari, No. 32 in the ITA NCAA Division II doubles rankings, were the only duo to prevail for MSU as they defeated Ana Montero and Livia Leite, 6-2, improving their record at No. 1 doubles to 9-5.

Binzari also coasted to victory in singles with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Leite. Binzari, who is ranked No. 43 in the nation and has played four nationally ranked opponents this season, improved to 6-8 at No. 1 singles for the MSU Mustangs.

Sydney Williams and Sofia Giraldo saw a three-match winning streak end at No. 3 doubles with a 6-4 loss to Caini Wang and Gabriella Bloomberg.

Williams avenged the loss in doubles by routing Montero at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-3. The junior from Austin, Texas, won her seventh consecutive singles match and improved to 7-1 for the season.

Li and Arnautu clinched the doubles point for Western New Mexico with a 7-6 (4) victory over Hannah Yip and Shreya Chakraborty at No. 2 doubles. Yip and Chakraborty won their three previous matches as a tandem at No. 2 doubles.

Yip, ranked No. 31 in singles, won the first completed singles match of the day and earned her fifth straight victory for the MSU Mustangs. The left-handed junior from Malaysia wore down Wang, 6-0, 3-2 (ret.), to even the dual match, 1-1. Yip is 4-0 at No. 3 singles this season.
