Jones sets three school records at Corky/Crofoot Shootout

LUBBOCK, Texas -- Midwestern State set four school records and four NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks as 19 personal records fell Friday and Saturday in the Corky/Crofoot Shootout at the Terry and Linda Fuller Track & Field Complex.

Junior Daiza Jones crushed the school record which was also her own PR by nearly two seconds to finish 11th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.14. The mark ranks 28th in NCAA Division II as the Haltom City, Texas, native became the first MSU student-athlete to reach a provisional mark in the 400.

Freshman Jessie Heath sprinted to the second fasted time in program history by pacing 17th with a time of 57.04, while sophomore Da'Shrana Sims reached seventh on the school's all-time performance list, taking 19th at 58.22.

Jones and Heath were also part of two other school-record setting performances as a member of the 4x100- and 4x400-meter relay squads.

The duo combined with Corinne Thorpe and Steveanna Hearn as the Mustangs finished third in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 49.69. The provisionally qualifying mark matched the 52nd-fastest time in NCAA Division II this season.

Heath and Jones then joined Trell'Kyrah Watkins and Nidhi Singh to place fifth in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:46.47 for another provisional qualifying mark. The time would have been the 29th best in the nation heading into the weekend.
