No. 4-ranked Mustangs remain undefeated in LSC with 7-0 win at UAFS

FORT SMITH, Arkansas -- Midwestern State earned its 10th straight win and improved to 9-0 in the Lone Star Conference with a 7-0 victory over Arkansas-Fort Smith at Ben Geren Park on Friday afternoon. With the victory, the Mustangs have clinched at least a share of the LSC regular season title and can secure the No. 1 seed in the upcoming LSC Tournament with a victory at Cameron on Sunday.

Midwestern State did not drop a set in their final meeting with UAFS as a conference foe and improved its overall record to 17-3. The Mustangs are 7-1 as visitors in dual matches this season.

Hannah Yip and Shreya Chakraborty set the tone with a 6-0 victory over Camila Romero and Taylor Conway at No. 2 doubles. MSU claimed the doubles point after Jessica Binzari and Anda Ghinga posted a 6-1 win over Petra Csizmadia and Arianna De Bernado at No. 1 doubles.

Sydney Williams and Sarah Mazaraki won their fourth-straight doubles match at No. 3 doubles, defeating Camila Romero and Antonietta Bocache, 6-2.

Freshman Sofia Giraldo returned to the line-up after sitting out last week with an injury and beat Bocache at No. 4 singles, 6-2. 6-0. The Colombian improved to 11-5 in singles with nine wins coming in the No. 4 position.

Williams extended her winning streak in singles to 11 matches with a routine 6-2, 6-2 win over Serrano at No. 6 singles. Williams is 11-1 in singles this season.

Binzari, the reigning Lone Star Conference Player of the Week, won her fifth consecutive match at No. 1 singles, clinching the dual match victory with a 6-4, 6-1 triumph over Csizmadia. Binzari is 10-8 overall with a 6-3 record in the LSC this season.

Yip remained red hot at No. 3 singles for the Mustangs. The junior from Malaysia extended her winning streak to nine matches and secured her eighth consecutive straight-set victory. Yip breezed past Romero, 6-2, 6-1. Yip is 8-1 in the LSC with a 15-5 record overall.

Ghinga improved to 18-1 for the season and won her sixth straight singles match as she handled De Bernado at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-1. Ghinga, who has wins over three nationally ranked opponents this season, is 8-1 against LSC competition.

Skylar Minns completed the sweep with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Conway at No. 5 singles. Minns is 8-1 in conference matches and improved to 12-6 overall.

Midwestern State has won all 15 of its dual matches with Arkansas Fort Smith, which is leaving the Lone Star Conference to join the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association for the 2024-25 year.

The Mustangs renew the Red River Rivalry on Sunday with a 2 p.m. dual match against Cameron at Streich-Henry Tennis Complex in Lawton, Oklahoma. Cameron is ranked No. 22 in the nation and 8-1 in the LSC after defeating Lubbock Christian on Friday afternoon, 5-2.
