Mustangs turn in trio of top performances at Texas Relays, Bobcat Invitational

AUSTIN -- Midwestern State turned in a trio of top performances over the weekend at the Texas State Bobcat Invitational and in the 96th Annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.

Alexandra Feller got it all started by winning the 10,000-meter run Thursday at the Texas State Track and Field Facility.

The senior from McKinney improved upon her previous personal best time by 46 seconds by finishing the event in 38:00.85.

The mark ranks fifth on MSU's all-time performance list and is just behind Ella Pando's 37:30.51 ran earlier this season at Abilene Christian's Wes Kittley Invitational. It is also the 28th fastest in NCAA Division II this season and is third in the in the Lone Star Conference.

Her previous best mark of 38:47.68 was also set earlier this season in the Kittley Invitational.

The Mustangs' 4x400-meter relay squad featuring Daiza Jones, Da'Shrana Sims, Trell'Kyrah Watkins, and Jessie Heath placed sixth at the Texas Relays Friday afternoon at Mike A. Myers Stadium with a time of 3:50.24.

The time is the 11th fastest time in NCAA Division II this season and fell a little over a second off of the provisional qualifying time of 3:49.10.

The mark ranks second on MSU's all-time performance chart, falling just short of the time of 3:46.93 set last season in the Lone Star Conference Championships by Jones, Jadyn Dangerfield, Sims, and Asia Robertson.

The Mustangs also placed sixth in the distance medley relay at the Texas Relays with a time of 12:04.70. The mark is 2.05 seconds faster than the indoor school record set by Cristina Alcantar, C.J. Frizzell, Ana Lopez, and Ashley Flores at the 2014 LSC Indoor Championships.

The distance medley relay, which is made up of distances of 1,200, 400, 800, and 1,600 meters, is not a championship event during the outdoor season.

But Nathalia Escontrias (1200), Heath (400), Dangerfield (800), and Jaycee Lyons (1600) easily eclipsed MSU's best mark of 12:22.58 set by Cara Mack, April Pena, Flores, and Tia Streeter in 2015.

Midwestern State competes in the David Noble Relays on April 4-6 in San Angelo.
