Mustangs throttle Thunderwolves at MSU Tennis Center, 7-0

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- No. 5-ranked Midwestern State secured its seventh victory in eight outings with a 7-0 sweep of Colorado State-Pueblo in the final non-conference clash of the season at MSU Tennis Center on Tuesday afternoon.

Midwestern State improved its season record to 10-3 and remained undefeated at home with a 5-0 record.

The Mustangs have claimed 13 of the last 14 points in dual matches after posting a 6-1 victory at St. Mary's on Friday. MSU has won its last 12 singles matches.

Midwestern State only dropped three games in doubles en route to the first point of the day.

Sydney Williams and Sophia Giraldo set the tone with a 6-0 victory over Malaya Pendon and Yelena Travica at No. 3 doubles.

The 33rd-ranked pairing of Jessica Binzari and Anda Ghinga took down Margot Aebischer and Mariangel Nunez, 6-1, at No. 1 doubles.

Hannah Yip teamed up with Shreya Chakraborty, a senior transfer from Bluefield State, for a 6-2 triumph over Valentina Brienza and Marta Garcia at No. 3 doubles.

The Mustangs clinched the match without dropping a game at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles.

Charkraborty, who is from India, earned her first singles victory as a Mustang and was first off the court with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Pendon at No. 5 singles.

Freshman Sarah Mazaraki, who has excelled in doubles alongside Yip in recent weeks, made her singles debut, and the Australian had little trouble defeating Travica at the No. 6 position, 6-0, 6-0.

Williams earned her fourth consecutive singles victory with a 6-0, 6-0 pasting of Marta Garcia. The junior from Austin, Texas, made her first appearance at No. 4 singles for MSU after starting the season with a 3-1 record in the No. 6 position.

Freshman Sofia Giraldo, who is 7-3 at No. 4 singles this spring, improved to 2-0 in the No. 3 spot for the Mustangs. The Colombian drilled Mariangel Nunez, 6-2, 6-0.

No. 38-ranked Jessica Binzari from Romania handled Aebischer, 6-3, 6-2. Binzari posted her second consecutive singles victory for MSU and improved to 5-6 at the No. 1 position this season.

No. 32-ranked Yip is 6-5 at No. 2 singles after dispatching Valentina Brienza, 6-4, 6-3, to complete the sweep for the Stang Gang.

Colorado State-Pueblo made its final stop on a Spring Break road trip and fell to 0-8 for the season.

The Mustangs lead the all-time series with the Thunderwolves, 9-1, and have claimed 64 of 66 dual-match points in the last eight meetings.

Midwestern State returns to conference play on Friday with a dual match against Angelo State at MSU Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for noon. Texas A&M-Kingsville visits the Mustangs on Saturday for a 1 p.m. dual match.
