ABILENE, Texas -- Sophomore Ella Pando turned in the fastest performance in a decade in the 10,000-meter run as Midwestern State raced to seven personal records in the outdoor season opener in the Wes Kittley Invitational Friday and Saturday at Elmer Gray Stadium.

Pando ran a 37:30.51 in her first collegiate try to win the 10,000-meter run as four Mustangs placed in the top five. The time ranked fourth on the program's all-time performance list was the best since the 2014 campaign when Michelle Krezonoski turned in a 37:22.32 and Gabby Ruiz ran a 37:27.38.

Senior Alexandra Feller (38:47.68), Rosalene Reyes Perez (38:55.01), and Mariana Sanchez (39:25.32) finished second, third, and fifth, respectively.

Freshman Jessie Heath dazzled in her first attempt at the 800-meter run, placing third with a time of 2:19.69 which stands ninth on MSU's all-time performance chart. Junior Daiza Jones placed eighth with a 2:24.27, while junior Nathalia Escontrias was ninth with a 2:24.52.

Escontrias also raced to a third-place finish in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:55.47, just ahead of sophomore Jadyn Dangerfield, who placed fifth with a PR time of 4:56.31.

Sophomore Da'Shrana Sims turned in a pair of strong efforts including a personal best time of 25.35 to take fifth in the 200-meter dash after finishing seventh with a time of 58.58 in the 400-meter dash.

Fellow sophomore Steveanna Hearn finished sixth in the 200-meter dash with a wind-aided time of 25.44, while junior Corinne Thorpe was 10th with a time of 25.83.

Junior Nidhi Singh raced to a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.40, ahead of teammates Trell'Kyrah Watkins (1:07.38/8th) and Jaidyn Robinson (1:11.68/10th).

Robinson also bettered a 33-year school record in the 100-meter hurdles as she finished 13th with a time of 15.91.

Senior Peyton Lewis placed fifth in the long jump (16-7.25) and sixth in the triple jump (33-6), while junior Delaini Hanna cleared 10 feet, 2 inches to take seventh in the pole vault.

Midwestern State competes in Texas Tech's Masked Rider Open on March 22-23 at the Fuller Track & Field Complex.
