ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- No. 5-ranked Midwestern State concludes its Spring Break road trip on Friday with a dual match against No. 21-ranked Flagler. First serve at Pollard Tennis Center is scheduled for 8 a.m. CDT.
The Mustangs look to extend their dual-match winning streak to five after posting a 4-2 win over No. 26-ranked Rollins in Winter Park, Florida, on Wednesday, improving to 7-2 for the season.
Jessica Binzari and
Anda Ghinga defeated Polina Ligay and Polina Vlasova, 6-0, at No. 1 doubles. Sophia Giraldo and
Sydney Williams breezed past Milla Falster and Eve Wasil, 6-0.
Hannah Yip and
Sarah Mazaraki won No. 2 doubles, 7-5, over Nancy Liu and Erin Yaroshuk.
Giraldo also hung a bagel on her opponent at No. 4 singles, defeating Nina Mitrofanova, 6-0, 6-4. The freshman has a four-match winning streak in singles and has won her last three matches in straight sets. The Colombian has only lost 11 games in that span.
Anda Ghinga improved to 9-0 this season as she defeated Ligay, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 3 singles. Ghinga, a junior from Romania, is ranked No. 33 among NCAA Division II singles players in the latest ITA rankings released on Wednesday. The nine-match winning streak is the longest of her collegiate career.
Williams made her second appearance at No. 6 singles this season, and the junior from Austin, Texas, clinched the dual-match victory with a 6-4, 7-6 (4) triumph over Yaroshuk.
Midwestern State has captured the doubles point in each of its last three dual matches and has won the doubles point in four of nine duals this season. The Stang Gang is 12-12 overall in doubles matches.
Binzari and Ghinga are 5-2 at No. 1 doubles and have reeled off three consecutive victories, losing just three games in that span.
Yip and Mazaraki have also won three straight doubles matches and are 4-1 at No. 2 doubles for the Mustangs.
Flagler won the only previous meeting with Midwestern State. The two schools clashed at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship in February of 2021, and the Saints prevailed, 4-1, in Edmond, Oklahoma. Ghinga and
Skylar Minns both appeared in that dual for the Mustangs.
Flagler is 5-2 this season with a five-match winning streak following a 5-2 victory over No. 3-ranked Wayne State on Tuesday at NSU Tennis Complex in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The Saints are 3-0 at home this year and defeated Valdosta State, 4-3, in their last dual at Pollard Tennis Center on March 6.
Nadja Meier, a senior from Germany, is No. 2 in the latest ITA NCAA Division II singles rankings. Meier has won five consecutive matches at No. 1 singles after opening the season with a 4-6, 6-1, 4-6 loss to Khim Iglupas of West Alabama on Feb. 23. Meier has only dropped seven games during her winning streak, including a 6-0. 6-3 win over Anais Ruyssen of Wayne State. Meier has won six sets at love this year and has three wins over nationally-ranked opponents.
Dana Heimen, a sophomore from Germany, is 4-2 at No. 2 singles for the Saints after defeating Malak Arafat of Wayne State in a match tiebreak, 3-6, 7-5, 10-2.
Eryka Kruk, a sophomore from Belarus, has won her last eight completed matches in straight sets and has only lost 26 games in that span. Kruk is 5-0 at No. 5 singles for Flagler.
Meier and Heimen have won six consecutive matches going back to the fall, and the duo is 4-0 at No. 1 doubles this season, including a 6-3 triumph against No. 4-ranked Ruyssen and Marta Komar of Wayne State.
Midwestern State returns to action at MSU Tennis Center on March 20 and begins conference play when Lubbock Christian visits the Mustangs. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
