DENTON, Texas --Zarria Carter notched a double-double with 20 points and 15 rebounds, but the Midwestern State fell to the Texas Woman's Pioneers 63-45 Wednesday night at Kitty Magee Arena.
In addition to Carter's strong outing, the Mustangs (2-6, 0-2 LSC) were led by Kerbie Cash, who had 14 points and eight rebounds, and by Emillia Steele, who added two points and three steals.
The Mustangs went ice cold over a 13-plus minute stretch, going 1-for-20 from the floor from the 1:38 mark of the second period until Carter connected on a jumper with 8:20 to play in the fourth. That allowed the Pioneers to extend a four-point edge into a 49-26 advantage early in the final quarter.
Led by Carter's four offensive rebounds, Midwestern State did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 11 boards that resulted in eight second chance points.
Midwestern State forced 15 Texas Woman's turnovers. The Mustangs turned those takeaways into 12 points on the offensive end of the floor. Calyssa Sevier led the way individually with three steals.
Midwestern State takes on No. 18-ranked UT Tyler Friday night at the Herrington Patriot Center. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m.

Midwestern State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 14-8 at the end of the first quarter.
The Mustangs and Pioneers then played an even second quarter making the halftime score 26-20 in favor of Texas Woman's.
Midwestern State's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Mustangs faced a 46-26 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Midwestern State turned three offensive rebounds into two second chance points on the way to scoring six total points in the quarter.
Midwestern State narrowed its deficit to 57-40 before going on a 5-0 run, finished off by Cash's layup, to shrink the deficit to 57-45 with 3:28 to go in the contest. Texas Woman's responded and outscored the Mustangs the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 63-45. Midwestern State took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 10 of its 19 points in the paint.
