WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State completes a three-game homestand on Thursday as it hosts Oklahoma Baptist. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
The Mustangs split the first two games of their homestand and are 1-3 to start the season.
Zarria Carter was named the LSC Defensive Player of the Week after scoring 37 points, grabbing 24 rebounds, blocking three shots and making five steals in the two games combined.
Carter is second in the league in both scoring and rebounding with 19.3 points and 11 rebounds per game. She is also second in the conference with 2.5 steals per game.
The senior from Mansfield, Texas, posted her third straight double-double — and her 16th at Midwestern State — in the Mustangs' first win of the season, a 65-53 victory over Rogers State.
Carter was a rebound shy of a double-double in a 58-52 loss to Central Oklahoma on Saturday night.
Midwestern State took 32 more shots from the field than the Bronchos but shot 22.6 percent, hitting 19 of 84 field goal attempts. UCO shot 38.5 percent, finishing the game 20 of 52 and making just 1-of-17 shots from 3-point range.
Freshman
Kerbie Cash posted her first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds in the loss to UCO.
Cash is the second-leading scorer for the Mustangs with 9.3 points per game, and she is pulling down 5.5 rebounds per game, which is second among active players.
Aniyah Williams suffered a season-ending injury in the win over Rogers State and was grabbing 8.7 rebounds per game for the Mustangs.
Midwestern State is forcing 21 turnovers a game and is blocking 2.8 shots per game. The defense is only allowing 59.8 points per game.
The Mustangs have started the season shooting just 29.1 percent from the field and are scoring 55.5 points per game. MSU is shooting 20 percent (12 of 60) from 3-point range to start the season.
Midwestern State is meeting Oklahoma Baptist for the eighth time in program history and is 2-5 in the all-time series. The Bison have won the last five meetings, including an 85-59 win in Shawnee, Oklahoma, last season. Oklahoma Baptist is 1-2 when visiting Midwestern State and defeated the Mustangs at D.L. Ligon Coliseum in November of 2022, 77-73.
Oklahoma Baptist is 2-1 to start the season. Following a 62-48 loss at Rogers State, the Bison annihilated Northeastern State, 80-49, and topped UT Dallas, 80-70, in their first home game of the season.
Mackenzie Crusoe is the leading scorer for Oklahoma Baptist with 17.3 points per game. Sydney Duncan and Sierra Copeland are the leading rebounders for the Bison with six rebounds a game.
The Bison are scoring 69.3 points per game while allowing opponents to score 60.3 points per game. They have outrebounded their first three opponents 35.3 - 31.7. OBU shoots 38.5 percent from the field and 32 percent from 3-point range.
Midwestern State travels to Lubbock Christian to begin the conference campaign on Saturday. Tipoff at Rip Griffin Center is scheduled for 1 p.m.
