Complete team effort leads to 96-60 win over Sul Ross State

WICHITA FALLS, Texas — Midwestern State (8-17, 5-14) defeated Sul Ross State (3-22, 2-17), 96-60, at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. The victory marked Midwestern State's third straight home win, improving their home record to 5-7 this season. The Mustangs capitalized on turnovers, scoring 24 points off Sul Ross State's 17 turnovers.

The first quarter began with MSU securing an early lead as Macie Upshaw scored a layup assisted by Kerbie Cash, who had her eighth double-double of the season. Carisa Cortez contributed with a 3-pointer shortly after, further extending the lead. The Mustangs capitalized on turnovers, including a steal by Calyssa Sevier that led to a successful fast-break layup at 8:00. Alyssa Hutterer added to the momentum with a 3-pointer at 3:26, assisted by Cortez.  MSU maintained a 22-17 lead at the end of the quarter.

The Maroon & Gold extended its lead over Sul Ross State in the second quarter, outscoring the visitors 26-12. Ta'Leeyah Glynn was instrumental, starting with a layup and a free throw at 9:47, adding a 3-pointer at 2:50, and finishing with a fast-break layup at 2:37. Kerbie Cash contributed with a series of plays, including a layup at 4:39 and a tip-in at 1:08. Sul Ross State struggled against MSU's defense, committing six turnovers and managing only four field goals in the quarter. The home team's defensive efforts included three blocks and five steals, maintaining a strong defensive performance throughout.

The Mustangs maintained their lead over Sul Ross State with a robust showing in the third quarter, highlighted by Kerbie Cash's scoring contributions. Cash completed a layup and a jumper, contributing to a 66-45 advantage by the end of the quarter. Catalina Cortez and Carisa Cortez each provided assists, further fueling the home team's offensive momentum. MSU's strong rebounding and effective offensive plays in the paint ensured their commanding win.
