DENTON, Texas -- Midwestern State's Tristan Gabbard fired a school record low score of 66 in the second round of the DBU Women's Classic Monday afternoon at Wildhorse Golf Club.

The sophomore from Fulshear carded five birdies and an eagle to close the round at 6-under to vault into a tie for fifth-place with a 36-hole, 3-under total of 141.

"She put on a show today," MSU coach Jeff Ray said. "She kept it going and never had a lapse in concentration. She put a 9-iron to within in six feet and made the birdie putt. If she was nervous, she didn't show it."

Gabbard's 6-under 66 was one stroke better than the previous program low set by Emily Brennan in the opening round of the Oklahoma Intercollegiate in 2017, then matched by Katie Reeves in the first round of the DBU Women's Classic in 2019.

"Her proximity to the hole was good," Ray said after Gabbard hit 13 greens in regulations while logging 27 putts. "You could tell her confidence level was up. That's just the kind of day you have to have to be good in this conference."

Gabbard heads into Tuesday's final round seven strokes off of the pace of Saint Leo freshman Olivia Deakins, who carded her second straight 67 Monday for a 10-under 134.

"It was fun to watch her," Ray said. "She wants to be great and she puts in the time effort. It's great to see that starting to pay off."

The Mustangs also claimed the program's low round with a 6-under 282 which was two strokes better than the previous mark of 284 set during the opening round of the TexAnn Fall Classic in 2017.

Sophomore Brecklyn Flanagan kept a tidy scorecard with two birdies, a bogey, and 15 pars for a 1-under 71, while freshman Madison Wert carded a pair of birdies on the way to an even-par 72.

Sophomore Kodi Nolen delivered the team's fourth countable score with a 1-over 73, while Alli Reily fired her second consecutive 74.

"Nobody had a bad round," Ray said. "This is another good progression point with this young team. We'll have to see how we follow this."

The Mustangs head into the final round in seventh place as a team with a 6-over 582.

Dallas Baptist (581/-5) leads the way followed by Saint Leo (573/-3), St. Mary's (574/-2), and Findlay (Ohio) (574/-2).

"The field is great and it's basically a national tournament," Ray said.

The final round begins with a shotgun start Tuesday at 8 a.m.
