TUCSON, Ariz. -- The scores of the West Texas A&M Desert Invitational were reflective of the tough challenges presented Tuesday at the course at The Lodge at Ventana Canyon.

Freshman Kodi Nolen tied for 19th carding matching scores of 81 in both rounds, while the Mustangs finished tied for seventh as a team with an 85-over, 36-hole total of 661.

"We got overwhelmed. The course is reasonably hard with the wind blowing out of the north," MSU coach Jeff Ray said. "We stayed focus, we tried, we walked and it was brutal. It was a test of your mental fortitude. It was a good learning experience. We'll just have to move forward."

The course at Ventana Canyon showed its teeth with an average score of 84.56.

Sophomore Hollie James (81-82) tied for 25th with a 19-over total of 163, while freshman Alli Reily (86-82) tied for 44th with a 24-over total of 168.

Freshmen Tristan Gabbard (84-90) and Makenna Henry (80-94) tied for 76th with a 30-over total of 174, while sophomore Brecklyn Flanagan (86-86) tied for 66th with a 28-over 172 competing as an individual only.

California State-East Bay claimed the team victory carding totals of 316 and 314 for a 54-over total of 630 to win by seven strokes over West Texas A&M (637/+61).

Colorado State-Pueblo freshman Minna Archer fired scores of 75 and 74 to win individual medalist honors with a 5-over 149, winning by four strokes over West Texas A&M's Anna Nomrowski (78-75) and Point Loma's Alli Kim (76-77).

Midwestern State competes in the Lone Star Conference Championship on April 24-26 at WinStar Golf Club in Thackerville, Oklahoma.
