Midwestern State moves up to No. 32 in ITA Collegiate Rankings

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State women's tennis team moved up eight spots and is No. 32 in the ITA Collegiate Rankings released this week. The Mustangs (17-6) are one of four Lone Star Conference schools ranked among the top-40 teams in the nation.

Cameron is No. 10 in the nation. St. Mary's is ranked No. 20, and Angelo State is ranked No. 26.

Midwestern State handed Cameron its first loss of the season last week at MSU Tennis Center, 4-3. MSU defeated St. Mary's earlier this season, 5-2, and suffered a 6-1 loss at Angelo State last month.

The Mustangs faced 27th-ranked Augustana in Kearney, Nebraska, early in the campaign and lost, 4-2. Midwestern State followed that loss by going on a six-dual winning streak. No. 23-ranked Azusa Pacific ended the streak with a 4-0 victory in California during the Spring Break road trip.

Midwestern State closed out the regular season with a 5-2 win over visiting Arkansas-Fort Smith on Saturday.

Midwestern State is 9-1 at home this season. The only home defeat was a 4-1 loss to No. 38-ranked Missouri Western last month.

The MSU doubles team of Sydney Williams and Amelia Lawson is ranked No. 33 in the nation. Williams and Lawson have played No. 1 doubles for the Mustangs in all 23 duals this season and have posted a 14-6 record. After suffering back-to-back losses at Dallas Baptist and UT Tyler, the duo rebounded with a 6-3 win over Cameron and a 6-1 triumph against UAFS.

Midwestern State is the No. 2 seed in the LSC Women's Tennis Championship Tournament, which features the top eight women's teams based on the final conference standings.
