ARLINGTON, Texas -- Midwestern State is the No. 2 seed in the LSC Women's Tennis Championship Tournament, which features the top eight women's teams based on the final conference standings. The Mustangs meet seventh-seeded Lubbock Christian in the quarterfinals at Arlington Tennis Center. The dual match begins at 3 p.m. on Thursday.
Midwestern State is seeking its sixth conference tournament title after being eliminated in the quarterfinals by Texas A&M-Kingsville last year. MSU has reached the finals on 11 occasions, most recently in 2019, when the Mustangs defeated Tarleton State, 4-1, to lift the trophy.
The Mustangs enter the postseason with a 17-6 overall record, including an 8-2 mark against conference opponents. Midwestern State, which is ranked No. 32 in the latest ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings, has a three-dual match winning streak following a 5-2 victory over Arkansas-Fort Smith in the regular season finale.
Midwestern State scored a convincing 6-1 victory over upstart Lubbock Christian when the two sides collided at Penny Gullo Tennis Center in Lubbock last month. Midwestern State is 13-4 this year at No. 5 singles, thanks in large part to the diligent work of
